The semi-serious run between nature and beer at Lake Fondi
Born in 2019 on the initiative of A.S.D. Olimpia Lazio, Corri Marione is now one of the most popular running events in the province of Latina, in the Lazio region. Its distinctive feature is stated right in the rules: this is not a race against the clock, but a semi-serious run where the goal is not the final time, but the pleasure of crossing one of the most evocative landscapes in the Municipality of Fondi in good company. In 2025, the event hit an all-time record of 400 participants, confirming its status as the most crowded event in the UISP "Natalino Nocera" circuit.
The course covers approximately 7.5 kilometers, consisting of a 3.5 km loop to be completed twice, within the Monti Ausoni and Lake Fondi Natural Park. You run on dirt paths and country lanes, through reed beds, lush vegetation, and open views of the coastal lake—one of the most delicate and lesser-known natural environments on the Lazio coast. The terrain is flat and accessible, which is why the event is also open to those who prefer nordic walking, fitwalking, or just a casual walk.
The rule that made Corri Marione famous is the refreshment policy: three refreshment points are set up along the route where a glass of beer is served, and to appear in the final ranking, you must have "honored" all three. It is a playful gimmick that flips the logic of a classic running race and has attracted entire families, vacationers, groups of friends, and nature lovers with their dogs in tow over the years. The organizers' slogan—"we provide the beer"—perfectly sums up the spirit of the evening.
The event's logistics base is the Foresteria Tenuta Sugarelle, located on Via Sugarelle in Salto di Fondi, the seaside hamlet of Fondi overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. This is where the meeting point, bib distribution, and late afternoon start take place, just as the summer heat begins to fade. The timing is no coincidence: running at sunset by the lake is, according to participants, the most beautiful moment of the entire event.
As in every edition, the finish line doesn't mark the end of the evening. After the awards ceremony—which also includes a prize for the largest group, a highly contested category—the so-called "third half" begins: pasta, sandwiches, drinks, live music, and a prize raffle. This is when the event shows its most authentic nature: a village festival disguised as a running race.
Corri Marione is sponsored by the Municipality of Fondi and supported by the Park Authority, which sees the event as an opportunity to promote the protected area: many participants discover a lake environment that few, even among residents, visit regularly. The event is part of the Fondi summer calendar, alongside the "Estatissima" festival, and represents one of the moments when the community of Salto di Fondi gathers in full.
Join us on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Salto di Fondi, a coastal hamlet of the Municipality of Fondi in the province of Latina. The meeting point is set for 4:00 PM at the Foresteria Tenuta Sugarelle, at Via Sugarelle 2161, with the race starting at 6:00 PM.
The route remains the classic one: approximately 7.5 kilometers along the natural trails bordering Lake Fondi, within the protected area of the Monti Ausoni and Lake Fondi Natural Park. The event is open to non-competitive runners, nordic walking and fitwalking enthusiasts, and casual walkers: there is no obligation to run.
Naturally, the three refreshment stops with beer that have made Corri Marione a unique event in the Pontine running scene remain. At the end of the race, after the awards ceremony, there will be the "third half" with food, live music, and a prize raffle.
Registration closes on Friday, July 24, 2026, or upon reaching 300 participants. Salto di Fondi can be reached via the Via Flacca (SS213), which connects Terracina to Sperlonga and Gaeta. By train: Fondi-Sperlonga station on the Rome-Naples line via Formia, then bus or taxi to Salto di Fondi (about 10 km).
Registration fee is 10 euros, including bib, refreshments, and the "third half". Register via email at [email protected] or in person at Top Run (Via Arnale Rosso 3/E, Fondi, tel. 0771 523741) and La Bottega Dolceamara (Via Covino 305/D, Salto di Fondi, tel. 389 1226661). Limited to 300 participants.
Bring shoes suitable for dirt paths and a change of clothes: the route is flat but dusty. Insect repellent is recommended due to the proximity to the lake. Dogs are allowed on a leash. Those who do not drink beer can still participate outside of the ranking.
