Floral carpets and a solemn procession in the village at the foot of the Maiella mountains
Every year, on the occasion of the Corpus Domini solemnity, the historic center of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore is transformed into a floral carpet. This small town in the province of Pescara, in Abruzzo, celebrates the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ with a solemn procession that winds through the village streets, enriched by the infiorata (flower carpet) created by a group of volunteers.
The flower festival is both a religious rite and a moment of community gathering. Faithful and volunteers work to compose carpets of petals, leaves, and fragrant flowers along the procession route, creating geometric patterns and sacred-inspired scenes. The parish also invites residents to decorate their balconies and windows with flowers and drapes overlooking the path of the sacred procession and to build traditional small altars for the stops and the Eucharistic Blessing.
At the end of the evening Mass, the Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession through the village streets, amidst the colors of the floral carpets and the participation of the faithful. It is the heart of the celebration: a journey of devotion that unites the entire community of San Valentino in the spirit of a tradition passed down from generation to generation.

The village, dominated by the mass of the Maiella, houses elegant 19th-century palaces, including Palazzo Trojani, and preserves living religious traditions such as the Good Friday procession and the feast of Saint Anthony Abbot. The Corpus Domini Flower Festival is part of this rich heritage of faith and popular culture that characterizes the villages of Abruzzo.
