About COORDINATE Festival

COORDINATE Festival transforms the medieval village of Calcata, in the heart of Tuscia, into a vast, open-air stage where dance, theatre, music, and visual arts engage with the landscape of the Treja Valley. From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the second edition brings performances to the narrow alleys, shows to the Capomandro open-air theatre, exhibitions, workshops, and artistic residencies. Conceived by PROTEO ETS, with artistic direction by Raffaella Appià, Patrizio Bucci, and Tommaso Petrolo, the festival offers free admission.

A medieval village turned into a stage

In the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia, perched on a tufa cliff overlooking the Treja Valley, the village of Calcata hosts COORDINATE Festival, an event dedicated to contemporary performing arts. For four days, from July 30 to August 2, 2026, the ancient historic centre becomes a vast, distributed stage: alleys, squares, art galleries, and natural spaces turn into meeting and creative hubs, where dance, theatre, music, visual arts, and performances dialogue with one of the most evocative landscapes in the Lazio region.

The second edition

Following the success of the 2025 debut, the festival returns with an even broader and more multidisciplinary programme. Conceived and produced by PROTEO ETS, COORDINATE is born from a collective artistic direction composed of Raffaella Appià, Patrizio Bucci, and Tommaso Petrolo. The project is realised with the support of the Lazio Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Calcata and the Valle del Treja Regional Park Authority, confirming the deep bond between the artistic initiative and its territory.

Performing arts in dialogue with the landscape

The festival's guiding theme is the concept of restanza—the poetic and political choice to inhabit and care for one's home. Performances are created in close connection with the natural environment and the village's architecture: the audience is invited to wander between different spaces, discovering Calcata as a living set. The Capomandro open-air theatre, the Capomandro Gardens, the Baronial Palace of the Anguillara, and Piazza Umberto I host contemporary dance shows, exhibitions, concerts, and social gatherings.

A project for the community

COORDINATE is not just a showcase of performances, but a participatory project involving the Calcata community and its visitors. Tango lessons, creative movement and swing in the square, photography workshops, and family activities complement the artistic programme. All events are free of charge, reflecting the organisers' commitment to making art accessible and shared.

Calcata, an art village in Tuscia

Known as one of the most distinctive villages in the Viterbo area, Calcata has been a haven for artists and artisans for decades. Its timeless atmosphere, alleys carved into the tufa rock, and the lush nature of the Valle del Treja Regional Park provide the ideal backdrop for a festival that weaves together roots and the future. For those visiting the province of Viterbo, COORDINATE Festival is an opportunity to discover the territory through the lens of contemporary performing arts.

COORDINATE Festival — edition 2026

The second edition of COORDINATE Festival takes place in Calcata from July 30 to August 2, 2026, featuring four days of dance, theatre, music, and visual arts spread throughout the medieval village and the Treja Valley landscape. All events are free.

The second edition of COORDINATE Festival brings Calcata to life for four days, from July 30 to August 2, 2026, with a multidisciplinary programme even broader than the 2025 debut. Contemporary dance, theatre, music, visual arts, and street performances transform alleys, squares, gardens, and the Capomandro open-air theatre into one large, distributed stage, in dialogue with the nature of the Valle del Treja Regional Park.

The festival is conceived by PROTEO ETS with the artistic direction of Raffaella Appià, Patrizio Bucci, and Tommaso Petrolo, with the support of the Lazio Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Calcata and the Valle del Treja Park Authority.
