About Coor sota ul Cistela

Coor sota ul Cistela is a non-competitive walking event in Baceno, Val d'Ossola, which invites adults and children every spring to explore the ancient paths and mule tracks of the village, in the shadow of Monte Cistella. Held in late April, it is designed as a community gathering for families, school students, and mountain enthusiasts, featuring two routes suitable for all fitness levels and the Claudio Bernardini Memorial Trophy for schools.

A walk through the trails of Baceno

Coor sota ul Cistela is a non-competitive walk open to everyone, taking place in Baceno, a small town in the Val d'Ossola in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB), in the heart of the Alpine Piedmont. The name, in the local Ossolan dialect, refers to the run that winds "under the Cistella," the peak that dominates the entire valley. The event guides participants along ancient paths and characteristic mule tracks that connect the village's hamlets, immersed in the lush green woods and typical vistas of this corner of the Upper Ossola.

An event for the whole community

More than just a race, Coor sota ul Cistela is a moment of celebration and togetherness for the Baceno community. The initiative particularly involves local schools: students, teachers, and parents participate together, creating a day that combines sport, landscape discovery, and team spirit. For this reason, the event is linked to the Claudio Bernardini Memorial Trophy, awarded to the school that achieves the best result, in memory of a figure dear to the community.

Two routes for everyone

The walk offers two routes of varying length and difficulty, so that everyone can choose the one best suited to their needs: from children and families to the most trained hikers who love the mountains. The meeting point and registration traditionally take place at the Baceno sports field, the start and finish point of the event.

Baceno and the Val d'Ossola

Participating in Coor sota ul Cistela is also an opportunity to discover Baceno and its territory, a gateway to the Antigorio Valley and Alpe Devero, in a setting of great Alpine charm. The organization is handled by the Primary School Parents' Committee together with the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Baceno, who renew this late-April appointment every year.

Coor sota ul Cistela — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Coor sota ul Cistela took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Baceno, Val d'Ossola. The non-competitive walk featured the two usual routes along the village's trails and hamlets, with the traditional meeting point at the sports field and the participation of families, students, and mountain enthusiasts.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, Baceno hosted a new edition of Coor sota ul Cistela, the non-competitive walk that brings the ancient paths and mule tracks of the Val d'Ossola to life every spring, under the profile of Monte Cistella.

As per tradition, the Baceno sports field served as the meeting point for registration, start, and finish. Participants were able to choose between the two proposed routes, suitable for both children and families as well as more experienced hikers. The event confirmed its vocation as a community celebration, with the involvement of local schools.
