The non-competitive walk through the trails and hamlets of Baceno
Coor sota ul Cistela is a non-competitive walk open to everyone, taking place in Baceno, a small town in the Val d'Ossola in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (VB), in the heart of the Alpine Piedmont. The name, in the local Ossolan dialect, refers to the run that winds "under the Cistella," the peak that dominates the entire valley. The event guides participants along ancient paths and characteristic mule tracks that connect the village's hamlets, immersed in the lush green woods and typical vistas of this corner of the Upper Ossola.
More than just a race, Coor sota ul Cistela is a moment of celebration and togetherness for the Baceno community. The initiative particularly involves local schools: students, teachers, and parents participate together, creating a day that combines sport, landscape discovery, and team spirit. For this reason, the event is linked to the Claudio Bernardini Memorial Trophy, awarded to the school that achieves the best result, in memory of a figure dear to the community.
The walk offers two routes of varying length and difficulty, so that everyone can choose the one best suited to their needs: from children and families to the most trained hikers who love the mountains. The meeting point and registration traditionally take place at the Baceno sports field, the start and finish point of the event.
Participating in Coor sota ul Cistela is also an opportunity to discover Baceno and its territory, a gateway to the Antigorio Valley and Alpe Devero, in a setting of great Alpine charm. The organization is handled by the Primary School Parents' Committee together with the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Baceno, who renew this late-April appointment every year.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, Baceno hosted a new edition of Coor sota ul Cistela, the non-competitive walk that brings the ancient paths and mule tracks of the Val d'Ossola to life every spring, under the profile of Monte Cistella.
As per tradition, the Baceno sports field served as the meeting point for registration, start, and finish. Participants were able to choose between the two proposed routes, suitable for both children and families as well as more experienced hikers. The event confirmed its vocation as a community celebration, with the involvement of local schools.
Full details of times and routes are communicated by the organizers on the official channels of the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Baceno in the days preceding the event.
