A 21.097 km run between the San Leone seafront and the Valley of the Temples
The Concordia Half Marathon City of Agrigento is a classic of the Sicilian running scene and arguably one of the most scenic half marathons in Italy. Its 21.0975-kilometre course does not just pass through any city: it winds between the sea of San Leone and the Valley of the Temples, the UNESCO-protected Greek archaeological site that has made Agrigento world-famous. Running with the Temple of Concordia and the Temple of Juno in the background turns a simple road race into an unforgettable experience.
The start is set on the San Leone seafront, along Viale Falcone Borsellino. From here, runners tackle Viale delle Dune, head back towards the coast, and then take the climb leading to the hill of the Temples—the most challenging yet most evocative section of the entire loop—before descending back towards the finish line on the promenade. It is a varied course that alternates fast, flat stretches by the sea with the elevation changes of the archaeological area: a technical challenge that rewards those who manage their energy well.
Founded in the early 2000s and organised by G.S. Valle dei Templi, the event has grown edition after edition to become a staple of the regional running calendar. The race is FIDAL-certified and is included as a stage of the Sicilian Regional Half Marathon Grand Prix, as well as being part of the Agrigento provincial circuit. Winners are awarded the Mario Mondello and Liliana Cusumano Trophies, while all finishers receive a commemorative medal.
Beyond the competitive race, the Concordia Half Marathon is a moment of celebration for the entire community of Agrigento and the surrounding area. There is no shortage of stories of loyalty: some, like Pietro Giardina, have crossed the finish line for over twenty consecutive years wearing the same bib. It is this spirit, rooted in sporting passion and love for the local area, that makes the event much more than just a race.
Located in the heart of south-western Sicily, in the province of Agrigento, the event takes place in one of the island's most popular tourist destinations. Participating means combining sport with the discovery of an archaeological heritage unique in the world, during the spring season, which is ideal for visiting the Valley of the Temples and the San Leone coastline.
The 2026 edition, sponsored by Legea, confirmed the winning formula of the Concordia Half Marathon: the 21.0975 km between the sea of San Leone and the hill of the Temples. With 739 registered runners (598 men and 141 women) and athletes arriving from 14 nations—including France, Ukraine, Poland, the United States, the Netherlands, Argentina, and Germany, alongside Italy—the race reaffirmed its international dimension. The most numerous categories were the SM50 for men and the SF45 for women. The event was valid as the second stage of the 24th Sicilian Regional Half Marathon Grand Prix.
Route: from the San Leone seafront along Viale delle Dune, return towards the coast and climb to the hill of the Temples (Temple of Juno), then descent towards the finish line on the seafront.
Award ceremony with the presentation of the Mario Mondello and Liliana Cusumano Trophies; commemorative medal for all finishers.
San Leone is the seaside district of Agrigento, reachable in a few minutes from the city centre. By car, you can arrive via the SS 640 (Strada degli Scrittori) from Caltanissetta or the SS 115 along the coast. The Agrigento Centrale railway station is connected to Palermo and Catania; from there, the seafront can be reached by local bus or taxi. The nearest airport is Palermo (Punta Raisi), about two hours away.
Bib collection is generally scheduled for the two days preceding the race at the headquarters on Via Minerva, or on the morning of the race starting from 7:00 at the starting line.
Prepare yourself for the climb towards the hill of the Temples: it is not a completely flat half marathon. Bring suitable shoes and, given the charm of the route, the desire to enjoy the view. In spring, the Agrigento climate is mild but sunny: a cap and hydration are recommended.
