The marathon of values: from the hills of Barchi to the sea of Fano
The ColleMar-athon is one of the most beloved running races in central Italy: an international marathon on the classic distance of 42.195 km that crosses the hilly hinterland of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino. The name itself tells the story of the route: from the hills to the sea, from the lush heights of Barchi (320 meters above sea level), a hamlet of the Municipality of Terre Roveresche, to the charming and sunny coast of Fano, where the finish line is framed by the monumental Arch of Augustus.
The certified route, completely closed to traffic, winds through scenic ups and downs and ancient fortified villages: Mondavio, Orciano, San Giorgio, Piagge, Cerasa, and San Costanzo. Running the ColleMar-athon means crossing some of the most evocative places in the Marche, on an itinerary that combines sport, landscape, and centuries-old cultural heritage. It is no coincidence that the event is known as the "marathon of values": each edition celebrates the identity of the territory, tradition, and social commitment.
In addition to the full marathon, the day offers two more accessible distances that share the same finish line at the Arch of Augustus: the Half ColleMar-athon (half marathon, 21.097 km) starting from Mondolfo, and the Ten ColleMar-athon (10 km) starting from the Tombaccia locality. The three-start format allows competitive athletes, amateur runners, and walkers to experience the same celebration of sport together.
The ColleMar-athon is much more than a race: alongside the competitions, there is "La Camminata dei Valori" (The Walk of Values), a walk accessible also to people with disabilities, and numerous solidarity initiatives with local associations. Organized by A.S.D. ColleMar-athon of Barchi, the event attracts over two thousand athletes, walkers, and companions each year, with a significant tourist impact for Terre Roveresche, Fano, and the entire Province of Pesaro and Urbino.
The 22nd ColleMar-athon confirmed its status as a major sporting event in the Marche region, serving as the FIDAL Marche Regional Championship for both individuals and clubs on this occasion. The three races โ the 42.195 km marathon from Barchi, the 21.097 km half marathon from Mondolfo (7th edition), and the 10 km from Tombaccia (4th edition) โ started simultaneously at 9:00 AM with a common finish at the Arch of Augustus in Fano. The official medal, created by artist Paolo del Signore, featured a bas-relief of the monuments of the nine villages crossed. Alongside the competitions, "La Camminata dei Valori" and initiatives dedicated to inclusion were held.
