Clean Up the World returns to Rome

Clean Up the World is the Italian version of the global environmental volunteering campaign. In Italy, it has been organized by Legambiente since 1993, involving hundreds of thousands of volunteers in over a thousand cities every year at the end of September. In Rome, in the Lazio region, the campaign translates into dozens of events spread across all neighborhoods, with a symbolic stage in the heart of the capital's monumental area.

Between the Colosseum and Colle Oppio Park

In the 2025 edition, the special Roman event was held in the area of the Colosseum and Colle Oppio Park, the large historic garden overlooking the Flavian Amphitheatre. Volunteers of all ages, equipped with gloves and bags, cleaned up paths, flowerbeds, and green spaces just steps away from one of the most visited places in the world, demonstrating how the care of common goods can start from individual daily actions.

More than just waste collection

The Roman day combines concrete action with moments of celebration and awareness. Alongside waste sorting, the typical program includes:

• a Swap Party, a solidarity-based barter of clothes and objects to give new life to what is no longer used;
• a run by runners for the environment, combining sports with environmental consciousness;
• environmental education activities aimed at children, families, and schools.

The 2025 edition was also featured in a live television broadcast dedicated to the campaign, testifying to the national value of the initiative.

A commitment to the city

Organized by Legambiente Lazio with the support of local public service companies, the Roman stage of Clean Up the World is an open invitation to everyone: citizens, associations, neighborhood committees, and administrations. No special skills are required, just the desire to dedicate a few hours to taking care of a piece of the territory. It is an opportunity to experience the Lazio Region and its capital as protagonists, rediscovering parks and green spaces that are often overlooked.
