Rome's festival of comedy and off-theatre
Roma Comic Off is the major event dedicated to comedy and "off" theatre in Rome. Every year, from mid-September to early October, the festival transforms numerous venues across the city into a vibrant circuit of laughter, showcasing dozens of performances by companies from all over Italy. In the city of Rome, the heart of the Lazio region, the festival has become a highly anticipated date for fans of live comedy, cabaret, and fresh theatrical talent.
The festival follows a competitive format: performances are staged in multiple Roman theatres, and it is the audience who casts their votes to determine the winners of the various categories. Over the years, the event has involved some of the city's most storied venues, such as Teatro Marconi, Teatro Petrolini, Teatro de' Servi, Teatro Portaportese, Teatro Tordinona, and Teatro Tor Bella Monaca, alongside other cultural spaces throughout the capital.
The programme is divided into two main sections. Comedies feature ensemble productions and group performances, while One (Wo)man Shows focus on the individual performer, ranging from monologues and stand-up to cabaret. Alongside established names in Roman and national theatre, the festival has always placed great emphasis on young artists and emerging acts, providing a platform for the most innovative voices in the Italian comedy scene.
Born in 2015 as Testaccio Comic Off with a small group of theatres, the festival has grown rapidly to reach a city-wide scale under its current name, Roma Comic Off. With each edition, the number of participating venues and competing shows has increased, cementing the event as a key reference point for theatrical comedy in Rome. In 2026, the festival celebrates its tenth anniversary.
An ideal opportunity to experience Rome in a new light, exploring its "off" theatre scene and spending early autumn evenings filled with laughter.
The tenth edition of Roma Comic Off is scheduled from September 15th to October 4th, 2026, in the comedy and off-theatres of Rome, in the Lazio region. The event confirms its format as a city-wide competition, with companies competing in the Comedy and One (Wo)man Show categories and the audience invited to vote for their favourite performances.
Performances take place in various theatres across Rome and are easily accessible via the city's public transport network (ATAC metro, buses, and trams). Each venue has its own location, ranging from the city centre to the outskirts of the capital.
Admission to the shows is ticketed; tickets can be purchased at the box offices of the participating theatres. Rates, schedules, and the detailed programme are published on the official website in the weeks leading up to the festival.
The festival takes place between mid-September and early October. The 2026 edition is scheduled from September 15th to October 4th.
