Classical Guitar Concert – Trio Sona

An evening of classical guitar in the heart of Soglio

In the village of Soglio, located in the Province of Asti in the heart of Piedmont, the historic church of Santi Pietro e Giorgio in Piazza Corsico transforms into a concert hall for one night. The star of the show is the Trio Sona, a classical guitar ensemble bringing a refined and accessible program to Soglio, designed to bridge the great European guitar tradition with the warm sounds of Iberian and Latin American music.

The Trio Sona

Active since 1995, the Trio Sona consists of guitarists Franco Cavallone, Massimo Iamone, and Rodolfo Mezzino. Over the years, the group has built an original repertoire for three guitars spanning the last two centuries, combining original compositions with numerous transcriptions. With a strong focus on promoting contemporary music, the Trio has had works written specifically for them by prominent composers and maintains an active international concert schedule.

The concert program

The evening features music by Spanish, Cuban, Mexican, and French composers from the 19th and 20th centuries. The program includes works by:

• Isaac Albéniz — the color and rhythm of late 19th-century Spain;
• Manuel Ponce — the voice of Mexico between romanticism and exoticism;
• Joaquín Nin — Hispanic-Cuban elegance;
• Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel — French Impressionism reimagined for three guitars.

A journey that weaves European classical tradition with the evocative power of Latin American music, highlighting the timbres and atmospheres that the guitar can render so expressively.

The church of Santi Pietro e Giorgio offers ideal acoustics and atmosphere for chamber music: an intimate space where the listening experience becomes direct and personal. The event, organized in Soglio with the support of the local community, confirms the cultural vitality of the small towns in the Asti area, where classical music finds authentic spaces far from the mainstream circuits.
