Christmas markets, local crafts, and Sannio flavors in the historic village of Porti
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Casali di Faicchio, within the municipality of Faicchio (Province of Benevento, Campania), Christmas is not celebrated in a typical square, but inside a stone village: Porti, one of the ancient clusters that make up the Casali district. Here, the Pro Loco Casali di Faicchio APS organizes Christmas in the Village - Tastes and Traditions, an event that transforms alleys, arches, and courtyards into a trail of lights, workshops, and aromas.
The concept is simple and effective: instead of building a Christmas village from scratch, the event utilizes the existing village, with its stone houses and stairways, filling it with artisans, food stalls, and music. The result is a market unlike any other, as the setting itself does half the work.
The event is open in the afternoon and evening: in previous editions, it started at 5:30 PM, the hour when the winter darkness best highlights the illuminations against the stone. Admission has always been free, allowing for a flexible visit without time constraints.
The third edition took place between late 2024 and early 2025: the weekends of December 21-22 and 28-29, 2024, and January 4-5, 2025, covering the entire holiday period up to Epiphany. This multi-weekend format distributes visitor flow and keeps the atmosphere alive for two weeks rather than concentrating everything into a single night.
Behind the organization is the voluntary work of the Pro Loco Casali di Faicchio APS, the same association that manages other local festivals throughout the year, from the Wheat Festival to the Fire of Saint Anthony and the Faicchio Carnival.
Faicchio is a town of just over three thousand inhabitants in the upper Titerno valley, the stream that crosses the territory from east to west before flowing into the Volturno. The town, at an altitude of 175 meters, is dominated by the Ducal Castle, with its trapezoidal plan and cylindrical corner towers, and houses the Roman-era Fabio Massimo Bridge, while megalithic Samnite walls are preserved on Mount Acero.
The population is not concentrated in a single historic center but spread across numerous districts: Casali is not a single hamlet, but the collective name for a dozen small localities. This scattered geography explains the role of village associations, which keep the identity of each cluster alive with their own festivals. The area is a land of vineyards and traditional rural products, and Christmas becomes an opportunity to showcase local production. In Porti, the Christmas season has long been linked to the living nativity scene, another event that takes advantage of the village's natural scenery.
At the moment, no official calendar has been published for December 2026. In December 2025, the Pro Loco Casali di Faicchio APS, together with the Ave Gratia Plena Parish, proposed the Casali Christmas Land program in Piazza Annunziata, featuring a Santa's Village, markets, street food, and the Epiphany play. To find out if and when the village of Porti will light up again, it is best to follow the official Pro Loco channels.
Those looking for massive markets with thousands of visitors won't find them here: Christmas in the Village is a local event, scaled to the size of the village that hosts it. That is precisely its value. You walk slowly, talk to the producers, taste the food, and in less than an hour, you cross a piece of the Sannio region that remains off the beaten tourist path for the rest of the year.
No official dates have been announced for the 2026 edition of Christmas in the Village - Tastes and Traditions. The reference remains the Christmas period, between late December and Epiphany, in the historic village of Porti in Casali di Faicchio (Province of Benevento).
In December 2025, the Pro Loco Casali di Faicchio APS, in collaboration with the Ave Gratia Plena Parish, focused holiday initiatives on Casali Christmas Land, featuring a Santa's Village, markets, street food, and the Epiphany play in Piazza Annunziata. It is therefore not possible to anticipate whether the village market format will be proposed again and with what calendar.
To find out about dates and programs as soon as they are available, you can follow the website and social channels of the Pro Loco Casali di Faicchio APS, or contact the association directly.
Historic village of Porti, Casali di Faicchio, 82030 Faicchio (BN), Campania. The village is pedestrian-only: it is best to leave your car in the designated spaces at the entrance to the district and continue on foot through the alleys.
Faicchio is located in the upper Titerno valley, in the western part of the Province of Benevento. A car is by far the most convenient means of transport, as evening public transport in the districts is very limited. Those arriving from Naples, Caserta, or Benevento should reach the Telesina valley and then turn towards Faicchio.
In previous editions, opening was set for 5:30 PM on scheduled days, and admission was free and open to all. Purchases at food stalls are paid.
