Coriano's May 1st between tractors, blessing of agricultural machinery, and peasant roots
The Christian Labour Festival is one of the most heartfelt events in the calendar of Coriano, a municipality in the hilly hinterland of the Province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna. Founded in the 1950s, the event has become deeply rooted in the local community: the 2026 edition celebrated the 73rd edition, confirming an uninterrupted continuity that links the territory to its rural origins and the agricultural world that still characterizes its landscape of vineyards and hills today.
The heart of the festival is the renowned parade of agricultural machinery. On the morning of May 1st, tractors gather in Via Piane, then move in a procession towards the town center. Along Via Garibaldi and near the roundabout between Via Marano and Via Berlinguer, the vehicles are displayed to the public: vintage and modern tractors, combine harvesters, seed drills, and work equipment, alongside historic cars, in a parade that attracts hundreds of people, including families, onlookers, and enthusiasts.
The Christian component remains central. In Piazza Don Minzoni, an open-air Holy Mass is celebrated, followed by the blessing of agricultural machinery, a symbolic moment that intertwines popular faith and gratitude for the land. The festival pays homage to the value of work, especially for those who work in the fields, and becomes an opportunity to recognize the main productive realities of the territory, including the wineries that animate the Coriano hills.
Around May 1st, a spread-out program develops, animating Coriano throughout the public holiday weekend. Recurring initiatives include the gathering and blessing of vintage cars and motorcycles, art exhibitions set up in the town's cultural spaces, theatrical performances, and book presentations, as well as community gatherings in the surrounding hamlets. A set of offerings that transforms the religious festival into a true collective celebration.
The Christian Labour Festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Coriano, with the patronage of the Municipality and the support of Terre di Coriano. More than just a simple anniversary, it represents an identity moment for the Romagna town: a way to reaffirm its roots and the value of work, keeping agricultural traditions alive and fostering cohesion among the different generations of the community.
The 73rd edition of the Christian Labour Festival animated Coriano from May 1st to 3rd, 2026. May 1st saw the gathering of tractors in Via Piane starting at 7:00 AM, with the procession departing towards the center at 8:30 AM and the vehicles displayed along Via Garibaldi until noon.
At 11:15 AM, Holy Mass was celebrated outdoors in Piazza Don Minzoni, followed at 12:15 PM by the blessing of agricultural machinery officiated by the Bishop of Rimini, Monsignor Nicolรฒ Anselmi. Over 150 vehicles paraded, including tractors, combine harvesters, seed drills, and work equipment, alongside vintage cars.
During the event, eight local wineries were awarded parchment certificates of appreciation. The weekend also featured exhibitions, theatre, and community gatherings, attended by Mayor Gianluca Ugolini and the municipal administration.
