In the heart of summer in the Anzasca Valley, the Walser village of Macugnaga (Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont) hosts ChocoMoment – Chocolate Fair, a festival dedicated to artisanal chocolate that turns Piazza Municipio into a true Chocolate Factory. The setting is one of the most evocative in the Alps: cocoa-scented stalls are arranged right beneath the majestic east face of Monte Rosa, the highest in Europe.
The traveling Chocolate Factory
The event is part of the national ChocoMoments circuit, which has been bringing its artisanal chocolate market to Italian squares for over ten years. The heart of the event is the Chocolate Factory: a mobile laboratory where machinery, videos, and educational materials explain the entire chocolate supply chain, from the cocoa bean to the finished bar. Surrounding it, master chocolatiers offer pralines, bars, spreads, and specialties to enjoy on-site or take home.

How to get there
By car: from the A26 motorway, take the Gravellona Toce exit, then the SS33 Sempione road to Piedimulera, and the SP road to the Anzasca Valley until you reach Macugnaga. By train: Domodossola station, then local bus to the Anzasca Valley.
Admission and bookings
Access to the market exhibition is free. Some activities, such as chocolate lessons for adults, require booking; the Choco Baby workshop for children has a fee (previously €7 per child, no booking required).
