The great Carnival festival of the hamlet of Solignano, with allegorical floats, masks, and Modenese specialties
The Children's Carnival of Solignano is one of the most deeply rooted popular festivals in the province of Modena. It takes place in Solignano, a hamlet of the Municipality of Castelvetro di Modena, in the heart of the Emilian Apennines and the hills that produce the famous Lambrusco Grasparossa. Born in the early eighties, the Carnival has grown with each edition, becoming a reference point for the entire Terre di Castelli area, attracting families and curious visitors from all over the Province.
The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, built with passion by local groups and associations. Masks, costumed figures, and children animate the procession that winds through the streets of Solignano, accompanied by the A. Parmeggiani Band of Solignano. It's a festival made by the village and for the village, where months of work on the floats find their moment of glory under everyone's eyes.
From the stage, showman Romano Carnevali presents and hosts the entertainment shows and awards the best floats and masked characters. For the little ones, there are entertainment activities organized by the 'Clown di corsia' of Gruppo VIP Modena Onlus and performances by dancers and whip crackers from the Gruppo Folkloristico Città di Vignola, which brings the folklore of the Modenese hills to the square.
An integral part of the festival is the food stand, where volunteers prepare and serve specialties on the spot: polenta, gramigna pasta with ragù, gnocco fritto, local cured meats and cold cuts, french fries, cod fritters, and the essential mulled wine to warm up on cold February days. An opportunity to savor Emilian peasant cuisine in an authentic and popular setting.
The Children's Carnival of Solignano is a free event designed for families with children. Amidst colors, music, masks, and traditional scents, it represents one of the most cherished events of the winter calendar in Castelvetro di Modena and the entire Emilia-Romagna region.
The 2026 edition, the 43rd, took place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in the hamlet of Solignano. The day confirmed the traditional structure of the event: a food stand open from the morning, an afternoon parade of allegorical floats with the village band, and entertainment shows for families.
In case of bad weather, the event was scheduled to be postponed to Sunday, February 15, 2026.
The event takes place in Solignano, a hamlet of the Municipality of Castelvetro di Modena (Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna), postal code 41014. The village streets host the parade and the food stand.
