The children's carnival of Traversara

The Children's Carnival in Traversara is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the hamlet of Traversara, a small center in the Municipality of Bagnacavallo, in the province of Ravenna, in the heart of lower Romagna. In 2026, it will reach its seventy-sixth edition, a historic event designed entirely for the little ones, which every year attracts children and families from all over the municipal area.

An afternoon of festive costumes

The heart of the event is simple and genuine: children come in costume and are welcomed in the Church square and the Kindergarten courtyard, two spaces in the village that for an afternoon transform into a large play area. Here, the little ones can participate in group games, entertainment, and a treasure hunt that involves all participants.

A community tradition

The Children's Carnival is the result of the work of local associations: the associations Traversara in Fiore and Amici della Musica, the Circolo ANSPI (formerly Circolo Lavoratori Cristiani Leone XIII), and the Parish of Traversara. It is a deeply popular festival, built by local volunteers and grown year after year to become a symbol of the hamlet's identity.

The event is also linked to another cherished event in Traversara: the balloon launch at 5 PM distributes free tickets for the Spring Flower Festival, the village's big spring celebration. In this way, the February Carnival becomes a preview of the calendar of events that liven up the community throughout the year.
