Three weeks of football, music, and solidarity in Gropparello
The Chicco Maggi Memorial is now a regular fixture of the summer in Gropparello, a small town in the Piacenza Apennines in Emilia-Romagna. Created to remember Francesco "Chicco" Maggi, a beloved figure in the local community, the tournament has grown edition after edition to involve the entire province of Piacenza. The heart of the event is the Ettore Rosso Sports Field, which for three weeks transforms into the evening meeting point for fans, families, and supporters.
The main tournament pits sixteen representatives from the Piacenza municipalities against each other, competing for what the organizers jokingly call the territory's "Champions League." The teams from Gropparello, Piacenza, Cortemaggiore, Travo, Alseno, Rottofreno, Salsomaggiore, Cadeo, Pontenure, Carpaneto, Fiorenzuola, San Giorgio, Lugagnano, Ponte dell'Olio, and Castell'Arquato take to the field. Alongside the main bracket, there is also an Over 35 tournament, youth and women's matches, and, on the final day, a beach volleyball tournament.
Every evening goes beyond the pitch: live music, food stalls, and entertainment accompany the matches, while sideline interviews tell the stories of the event's protagonists on social media channels. The closing day also hosts a vintage car exhibition and an auction of autographed jerseys, with proceeds supporting the charitable cause.
The ultimate goal of the Memorial is solidarity: all proceeds from the evenings are donated to the Lilt of Piacenza (Italian League for the Fight Against Tumors) to promote healthy lifestyles and support cancer prevention. The event is organized by Promis Gruparel in collaboration with the Gropparello Sports Club and Csen Piacenza, with former Serie A striker Dario Hรผbner as the event's patron.
The fourth edition of the Chicco Maggi Memorial confirms the formula that has made the event an anticipated fixture of the Piacenza summer: three weeks of evening matches at the Ettore Rosso Sports Field in Gropparello, with sixteen municipalities from the area competing in the main tournament. This year again, the initiative combines the spirit of sport with a strong charitable commitment, with fundraising for Lilt of Piacenza.
The tournament unfolds over thirteen evenings of matches, scheduled for May 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 31, and June 1, 3, 4, 9, 11, 13, and 14, 2026, at the Ettore Rosso Sports Field.
Sixteen representatives from the Piacenza municipalities compete for the title. Among the first-day matches: Cortemaggiore vs. Travo, Alseno vs. Rottofreno, and Salsomaggiore vs. Cadeo. Following them are Gropparello, Piacenza, Pontenure, the two Carpaneto teams, Fiorenzuola, San Giorgio, Lugagnano, Ponte dell'Olio, and Castell'Arquato.
The matches are held at the Ettore Rosso Sports Field in Gropparello (PC), Emilia-Romagna. The beach volleyball tournament on the final day takes place at the nearby "La Castellana" swimming pool.
Gropparello can be reached by car from Piacenza in about 40 minutes, taking the SP654 of Val Nure and the roads of the Piacenza hills. Ample parking is available near the sports facility.
Evenings are free to enter. Food stalls are available on-site for dinner and refreshments. Please note that the event has a charitable purpose for the benefit of Lilt of Piacenza.
