The Carnival of Tigullio
The Chiavari Carnival is one of the most cheerful events of the winter in Tigullio. The city of Chiavari, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, dresses up to welcome the parade of allegorical floats, which parade along the seafront amidst masks, confetti, music, and costumed groups.
The Parade and the 'Pentolaccia'
The procession starts in the early afternoon from Largo Ravenna and travels along the city's seafront, offering a spectacle of colors and creativity. The traditional 'pentolaccia', an ancient carnival game much loved by children, set up on Via dei Velieri, concludes the festivities. It is a celebration designed primarily for families, filling the streets of the center with joy.
A City Tradition
Organized by the Municipality of Chiavari, the Carnival represents a moment of gathering for the entire community. Among the floats built by local groups and the costumes of the little ones, the festival renews the Ligurian carnival tradition every year, offering visitors an opportunity to discover Chiavari in its most playful and popular dimension.
Chiavari Carnival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Chiavari Carnival is scheduled for Sunday, February 22. The parade of allegorical floats starts at 3:00 PM from Largo Ravenna and travels along the seafront, concluding with the 'pentolaccia'. In case of bad weather, the event is postponed to Sunday, March 1.

How to get there
Chiavari is located in Tigullio. By car, take the Chiavari exit from the A12 motorway. Chiavari train station is on the Genoa-La Spezia line, a short walk from the seafront where the parade takes place.

Free admission. The parade starts in the early afternoon. In case of bad weather, a reserve date is planned. Program and route details are published by the Municipality in the preceding days.
