The cherry festival that opens summer in the Upper Tiber Valley
In Cerbara, a hamlet of Città di Castello in the Province of Perugia, the Cerbara in Festa sagra (festival) has been celebrating the cherry, the symbolic fruit of late spring in the Upper Tiber Valley, for over thirty years. It's the classic event that, at the start of summer, draws thousands of visitors to the small Umbrian town each year.
The heart of the festival are the food stalls, where you can taste the best cherries—from bigarreaux to duroni, from anella to ferrovia—along with typical dishes and products from the Upper Tiber Valley. Alongside the food, local crafts showcase their creations, in an atmosphere of authentic village celebration.
The program doesn't stop at gastronomy: music and dancing liven up the evenings, while sports events, card tournaments (the classic briscola), running races, and cycling exhibitions take place during the festival. Organized with passion by the Pro Loco of Cerbara, the sagra is an event that unites entire generations and tells the convivial spirit of the villages in the Tifernate countryside.
From May 27 to June 2, 2026, Cerbara, a hamlet of Città di Castello, hosts the new edition of Cerbara in Festa, the festival dedicated to the cherry. For a week, the village center comes alive with food stalls, tastings of the most delicious cherry varieties, typical dishes and local products, local crafts, music, and dancing. There will also be side events including sports, card tournaments, running races, and cycling exhibitions. The organization is handled by the Pro Loco of Cerbara.
The event spans a week of celebration, from May 27 to June 2, 2026, with evening openings of the food stalls. The traditional program includes:
