About Cento Croci Trail

The Cento Croci Trail Ultramarathon is a trail running race held in Tarsogno, a hamlet of the Municipality of Tornolo, in the upper Val Taro in the province of Parma. Organized by ASD Spirito Tarsogno, the event offers three competitive distances — the 50 km Ultramarathon, the 25 km Zuccone Trail, and the 10 km Short Trail — plus panoramic walks open to everyone. With routes through ridges, woods, and breathtaking views of the Apennines, it is one of the most beloved stages of the Trofeo Alte Valli Cup and is ITRA and UTMB Index certified.

A trail race in the heart of the Parma Apennines

The Cento Croci Trail Ultramarathon is now a well-established event on the running calendar of Emilia-Romagna. It takes place in Tarsogno, a charming hamlet of the Municipality of Tornolo, in the upper Val Taro, at the southwestern edge of the Province of Parma, a stone's throw from the border with Liguria. Here, the Apennines offer wide ridges, dense beech forests, and trails winding around the Cento Croci Pass, from which the event takes its name.

The routes

The event, organized by ASD Spirito Tarsogno, offers three competitive races designed to satisfy both the most experienced ultratrailers and those new to the sport:

  • CCT Ultramarathon — 50 km with approximately 2400 meters of elevation gain, the main challenge reserved for the most trained athletes;
  • Zuccone Trail — 25 km with approximately 1500 meters of elevation gain, an intermediate distance that is very technical and scenic;
  • Short Trail — 10 km with approximately 450 meters of elevation gain, ideal for those running on trails for the first time.

Alongside the competitive races, there are non-competitive scenic walks, open to families and enthusiasts who want to discover the area's trails without the pressure of the clock.

An internationally recognized event

The Cento Croci Trail boasts ITRA (International Trail Running Association) recognition and the awarding of the UTMB Index for the longer distances, elements that certify its technical quality and the accuracy of the routes. The race is also one of the stages of the Trofeo Alte Valli Cup, the circuit that brings together the main mountain races of the Parma Apennines throughout the spring-summer season.

Territory and atmosphere

Running in Tarsogno means immersing yourself in an authentic landscape, made up of stone villages, woods, and silent valleys. The organization meticulously takes care of aid stations, signage, and safety along the routes, offering participants a complete trail experience in contact with nature. The warm welcome from the community of Tornolo and the festive atmosphere that envelops the village on race day make this event much more than just a sports competition.
