An equestrian show in the heart of Blera, blending art, tradition, and Maremmano horses
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Cavalli in Piazza is the event that transforms the village of Blera, in the province of Viterbo, into a small capital of equestrian performance every summer. Promoted by the Associazione Amici del Cavallo Maremmano e Tolfetano di Blera with the support of the Municipality of Blera, the Province of Viterbo, and the Lazio Region, the event began in 2024 and has quickly become a highly anticipated date for enthusiasts, families, and visitors from across the Tuscia region.
The centerpiece of the event is the grand evening equestrian show, a theatrical performance that weaves together music, poetry, and the majesty of horses in liberty. The arena hosts Italian and international artists and riders, featuring acrobatics, training displays, and vaulting that bridge Maremma tradition with contemporary artistic research. The 2025 edition also marked the birth of the Italian Forum for Horse-Art-Show-Equestrian Theater, with the ambitious goal of having Italian equestrian art recognized as intangible cultural heritage.
Alongside the evening shows, the days of Cavalli in Piazza offer a rich calendar of activities:
Every evening, the food area offers traditional local dishes: truffle fettuccine, Maremmana beef, and extra virgin olive oil from the Colli Etruschi accompany dinners under the stars in the village squares. It is a perfect opportunity to discover the typical products of the Viterbo area in a convivial and popular atmosphere.
Nestled in the hills of the Viterbo Tuscia, Blera is an Etruscan-origin village rich in necropolises, ancient sunken roads, and historical landmarks. Its rural vocation and strong bond with Maremmano horse breeding provide the ideal backdrop for an event that celebrates the territory's identity, popular traditions, and the equestrian culture of Lazio. With free admission and a constantly growing audience, Cavalli in Piazza confirms itself as one of the most evocative events of the Viterbo summer.
The 2026 edition of Cavalli in Piazza in Blera, in the province of Viterbo, has not yet been officially confirmed. Following the success of the first two editions, the event is expected to bring back the evening equestrian show, the horse parade, family workshops, and dinners featuring typical products from the Colli Etruschi to the village's historic center. Precise dates and the full schedule will be communicated by the Associazione Amici del Cavallo Maremmano e Tolfetano di Blera and the Municipality of Blera.
Blera is located in the Viterbo Tuscia, in the province of Viterbo. By car, it can be reached from the Via Aurelia (SS1) or the Via Cassia, exiting towards Vetralla and Barbarano Romano. The nearest train station is in Viterbo, which is connected to Rome; from there, you can continue by car or local bus.
The event takes place in the historic center of Blera with daytime activities and evening shows. Admission to the equestrian shows is generally free. Dates and times may vary from year to year: it is recommended to check the updated program via the Municipality of Blera and the channels of the Associazione Amici del Cavallo Maremmano e Tolfetano.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking around the village, arrive early for the evening show, and book your dinner at the food stalls. Numerous agritourism facilities in the Tuscia region offer accommodation nearby.
