Discover the historic village in the Asti region, featuring palaces, churches, and 15th-century frescoes
Every year, the Municipality of Incisa Scapaccino, in the province of Asti, participates in the regional Castelli Aperti (Open Castles) event by opening the doors of its Ancient Village to guided tours. The initiative allows visitors to walk through the streets of the so-called Borgo Villa, the upper and historic part of the town, focusing on the main artistic and architectural landmarks of the area. It is a precious opportunity to get to know a corner of Piedmont often off the beaten tourist path, yet rich in history and tradition.
The guided route covers the most significant stops in the village:
Guides accompany visitors along the village streets, sharing stories, legends, and artistic details that have shaped the history of Incisa Scapaccino and the Asti Monferrato.
The Castelli Aperti event is one of the longest-running cultural festivals in Piedmont: for over thirty years, it has offered annual extraordinary openings of castles, historic villas, museums, villages, towers, and gardens distributed across the provinces of Lower Piedmont (Alessandria, Asti, and Cuneo) and the Turin area. Coordinated by the Castelli Aperti Association and supported by the Piedmont Region, the event enlivens Sundays from spring to autumn with a structured calendar of guided tours and special openings. The village of Incisa Scapaccino has been part of the circuit since 2023, enriching the Asti region's offering with a proposal for slow and cultural tourism.
A visit to the Ancient Village of Incisa Scapaccino is ideal for those who love cultural tourism and small Piedmontese villages: a few hours' walk that combines art, religious architecture, and the charm of a Monferrato town, in a day that can be paired with exploring the surrounding hills and vineyards.
