The race that kicks off the 8th Zone Rally Cup season in the heart of Salento
The Casarano City Rally is one of the most anticipated automotive competitions in Salento and the entire Puglia region. Organized by the Scuderia Casarano Rally Team, it is a valid round of the ACI Sport 8th Zone Rally Cup, typically serving as the season opener: when the cars roar out of Casarano, in the province of Lecce, it signals that the southern Italian zonal championship has officially begun.
The logistical and symbolic heart of the race is Piazza San Domenico, in the center of Casarano, which once again hosts the starting ceremony and the final finish line with the awards presentation. This is where the public gathers to see the crews up close and experience the atmosphere typical of road racing, amidst the roar of engines and the celebration of enthusiasts that accompanies every edition.
The track winds through various municipalities of lower Salento, alternating fast stretches with technical rhythm changes. The event's historic special stages include «Specchia», also run in a night version, «Torre Vado» in the coastal district, and the long «Marina di Alliste», overlooking the Ionian Sea. With nearly 400 total kilometers and several dozen timed kilometers, the race offers spectators numerous vantage points from which to follow the cars.
The traditional competition is joined by the Casarano City Historic Rally, a race reserved for vintage and classic cars that enriches the event with a fascinating dive into the history of motorsport. The event utilizes the Rally Village Indoor set up in the spaces of the former Filanto factory, in the industrial area of Casarano, which houses the service park, sporting and technical checks, regrouping, and refueling.
Located in lower Salento, Casarano is a lively town in the province of Lecce, known for its manufacturing tradition and proximity to the Ionian coast. Hosting the rally is a source of pride for the community: in the heart of spring, the race brings visibility to the territory and attracts athletes and enthusiasts during an ideal time to discover the villages, gastronomy, and coasts of this corner of Puglia.
The 31st edition of the Casarano City Rally marked the opening of the 2026 season of the ACI Sport 8th Zone Rally Cup. The big news was the birth of the 1st Casarano City Historic Rally, a race reserved for historic and classic cars alongside the traditional competition. The event was organized by the Scuderia Casarano Rally Team under the patronage of the Puglia Region, the Province of Lecce, and the Municipalities of Casarano and Miggiano.
The total route was 392 km, of which 67 were timed across seven special stages. The Rally Village Indoor, set up in the former Filanto factory in the industrial area of Casarano, hosted the service park, sporting and technical checks, regrouping, and refueling.
Casarano can be reached by car via the Lecce-Gallipoli expressway and the provincial roads of lower Salento; it is served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est railway. The reference airport is Brindisi-Salento.
Access to spectator points along the special stages is free. It is recommended to follow the instructions of the organizers and law enforcement, to park only in permitted areas, and to respect road closures. The detailed program with times and maps is published by the Scuderia Casarano Rally Team in the days leading up to the event on the official website and social media channels.
