Carpineto Romano Buskers Festival

One of Italy's oldest street festivals

The Carpineto Romano Buskers Festival began in 1990 and has since drawn top-tier street artists to this Lepini Mountains village every summer, embracing the true busking tradition of inhabiting every urban corner. The original concept was developed by then-Culture Councilor Quirino Briganti, alongside an Argentine busker named Fabian and figures such as Manola Colangeli and long-time artistic director Franco Fosca. With over thirty years of history, it is considered one of Central Italy's longest-running street art festivals.

A lineup that bridges street art and theater

The festival stands out on the national scene for its fusion of traditional street performances with acts usually found only in theaters or live clubs: commedia dell'arte, innovative theater, contemporary circus with aerial structures, and live painting performers who turn squares and alleys into open-air museums. The artistic direction is handled by the Scuderie MArteLive collective, which selects and promotes emerging artists from across Italy.

The village becomes a show

During the festival evenings, the entire medieval historic center of Carpineto Romano—its alleys, staircases, squares, and the scenic Reggia dei Volsci—lights up with sound and performance. The shows are roaming and free: the audience wanders freely from one corner of the town to another, encountering a circus act, a comedy scene, or a passing musician at every turn.

Located in the southern part of the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region, the town of Carpineto Romano is a village overlooking the Lepini Mountains, also known as the birthplace of Pope Leo XIII. The Buskers Festival is now an integral part of the town's summer identity and a key reference point for street art in Lazio, attracting artists and visitors from all over the peninsula every year.
