About Alta Val Brembana Carnival

In February, the Alta Val Brembana, in the province of Bergamo, celebrates Carnival with a festival uniting the three Municipalities of Olmo al Brembo, Piazzatorre, and Piazzolo. Parades of masks and costumed groups liven up the towns in an inter-municipal event that brings colour and joy to the Bergamo mountains. A community tradition that, in the heart of winter, acts as a bond between neighbouring villages sharing a mountain life.

A carnival across three towns

The Carnival of the Alta Val Brembana is an inter-municipal festival involving the three Municipalities of Olmo al Brembo, Piazzatorre, and Piazzolo, in the province of Bergamo. Parades of masks and costumed groups liven up the valley towns, in an event that unites nearby communities sharing a mountain life.

Mountain masks and tradition

Like many Alpine carnivals, the Alta Val Brembana carnival also retains the authentic flavour of village festivals: the costumes, colours, and joy of the parades involve children and families above all, in a genuine atmosphere that warms the winter among the Orobic mountains. The travelling formula between the three Municipalities strengthens the sense of belonging to a territory with common roots.

Olmo al Brembo, heart of the festival

Olmo al Brembo, located at the confluence of the streams that give rise to the Brembo river, is one of the three protagonists of the festival. The carnival is an opportunity to come together as a community after the colder months and to experience one of the year's most beloved celebrations together, in a corner of the Alta Val Brembana in Bergamo.
