The children's Carnival in Desana

In Desana, a town of just over a thousand inhabitants nestled among the rice fields of the Vercelli province, Carnival has a local charm and a heart dedicated to the little ones. The Carnival Festival is, in fact, a true fancy-dress party for children, organized by the Municipality of Desana in the school gym, located at Via Trino 26.

For an afternoon, the school building transforms into a small, colorful kingdom: girls and boys arrive dressed as superheroes, princesses, animals, and fairy-tale characters, ready to enjoy a few hours of pure fun. The program is simple and specifically designed for them: music, games, entertainment, and a shared snack that brings the party to a smiling close.

A tradition that lives throughout the village

The party in the gym is part of a broader Carnival calendar that enlivens Desana for several weeks. The Vercelli village participates with enthusiasm in the Carnival, with events such as the famous fagiolata (bean stew feast) in the municipal hall on Via San Maurizio, the handing over of the keys to the official masks, and participation in the grand costume parades in Vercelli, where Desana marches alongside neighboring towns with floats created by volunteers.

It is a Carnival that tells the story of a community's spirit: no big numbers, but plenty of participation, the desire to be together, and a network of volunteers, families, and local associations that renew the tradition every year.

Visiting Desana during Carnival is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont. The village is dominated by the imposing Castello di Desana, a 15th-century manor with its massive facade and two cylindrical towers overlooking Piazza Castello, the heart of the town center. All around lie the rice fields of the Vercelli plain, a landscape that symbolizes this land.
