A Carnival Party for Children

The Carnevale dei Piccoli is the Carnival party that the Municipality of San Possidonio, in the province of Modena, dedicates to children and families. The event takes place in the heart of the town, in Piazza Andreoli, and transforms the central space of the Bassa Modenese into a large, colorful gathering of masks, confetti, and cheerfulness. It's a simple and popular event, far from the grand carnivals with floats, but deeply felt by the local community: here, the absolute protagonists are the little ones.

The Day's Program

The square fills up from the afternoon with children in costume, accompanied by parents and grandparents. The program alternates entertainment moments designed for different ages:

• Music and entertainment to warm up the atmosphere in the square;
• Face painting, with masks and designs painted on the faces of the little ones;
• Creative workshops to build carnival-themed decorations and objects;
• Games and group activities to involve all the children present;
• Food stalls with typical Carnival sweets and snacks.

The highlight is the masked parade, during which children show off their costumes along the square. At the end, a prize for the best mask is awarded, concluding the party with applause and confetti.

Carnival in the Bassa Modenese

The Carnevale dei Piccoli is part of the rich calendar of Carnival festivities that liven up the Bassa Modenese between January and March, alongside events in Mirandola, Cavezzo, Finale Emilia, and Concordia sulla Secchia. Although without the large floats of other locations, San Possidonio offers an intimate and family-friendly version of the tradition, where the square becomes the center of community life. It's an opportunity for the small Emilian municipality to renew a community ritual that unites generations in the spirit of play and fun.

Designed for children but open to everyone, the party is a perfect occasion to spend a carefree afternoon with the family. Admission is free, and the intimate and safe environment makes the event suitable even for the youngest children.
