The Captains' Tournament of Mondolfo

The Captains' Tournament is the summer 8-a-side football tournament that, every July, transforms the E. Fermi Sports Field in Mondolfo into a small village stadium lit by floodlights. Promoted by Pro Loco Tre Colli Mondolfo APS, the tournament has become in just a few seasons one of the most cherished events of the Mondolfo summer, capable of attracting players, families, and fans around the pitch on Via Enrico Fermi.

Eight teams, two groups

The format is the classic and proven one for summer tournaments: eight teams divided into two groups, which face each other in the initial phase to qualify for the semi-finals. Matches are usually played in two evening slots, at 8:30 PM and 10:00 PM, allowing everyone to play after work and enjoy the cool evening air. Each team brings its captain onto the field, hence the name of the event, a symbol of football based on friendship, healthy rivalry, and belonging to the territory.

A summer of sport and socialising

More than just a competition, the Captains' Tournament is a gathering opportunity for the Mondolfo community. Next to the field, a food stand is set up with sandwiches and drinks, where fans and onlookers can stop for a bite while watching the matches. The evenings thus become moments of outdoor celebration, where sport intertwines with the typical conviviality of the Marche region and the spirit of volunteerism that animates the Pro Loco.

The event takes place in the Municipality of Mondolfo, in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. Mondolfo is a hilltop village overlooking the Adriatic Sea, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, with its seaside district of Marotta. Throughout the year, the Pro Loco Tre Colli organizes numerous events that enhance the local identity: from food festivals to Christmas celebrations, including sports events like this tournament, designed to strengthen the bond between the inhabitants and their community.

Tournament phases

• Group stage: a series of July evenings dedicated to the matches of the two groups.
• Semi-finals: the best teams compete for a place in the final.
• Final: the decisive match that concludes the tournament at the end of July and awards the title.
