About Latitudini

Latitudini is the microfestival of literature, publishing, and arts that transforms the courtyard of Palazzo della Signoria in Jesi into a window onto the world every summer. Eight evening meetings between July and September 2026, always at 9:30 PM and preceded by a convivial aperitif, dedicated to writers, translators, and voices that tell of geographical and cultural realities, both near and far. Organized by KAR - Movimenti Creativi with the scientific direction of sociologist and translator Fabio Salomoni, the festival focuses on the literatures of the Middle East, Turkey, and other territories often on the margins of mainstream narratives. Free admission.

A microfestival to broaden your horizons

In Jesi, in the heart of the Vallesina and the province of Ancona, the microfestival Latitudini has become one of the most original cultural events of the Marche summer. Born as a microfestival of literature and art from nearby and distant worlds, it offers a series of evening meetings each year in the evocative courtyard of Palazzo della Signoria, a Renaissance gem designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, which today also houses the Planettiana Library.

The 2026 edition, part of the Jesi Estate program promoted by the Municipality of Jesi, confirms the formula that has made the festival recognizable: eight meetings spread between July and September, hosted in the courtyard and the main hall of the palace. The common thread remains telling stories of nearby and distant worlds, giving voice to literatures, experiences, and cultures that enter our daily lives but rarely find space to be heard calmly.

Literature, publishing, and arts in dialogue

The festival is organized by the association KAR - Movimenti Creativi, a Jesi-based entity that networks events, workshops, and reflection paths in constant dialogue with contemporary culture. The scientific direction is entrusted to Fabio Salomoni, a sociologist and translator, who since the early editions has focused the programming on the literatures of the Middle East, the Arab world, Turkey, and Kurdish culture.

Over the years, Latitudini has brought conversations with scholars, translators, and writers to Jesi, capable of guiding the audience through complex contexts: from novels of Arab tradition to voices of Turkish and Kurdish narrative, up to reflections on migration and the concept of borders as places of encounter rather than just separation.

The link with Passeggeri and Iperborea

A distinctive feature of the festival is its connection with Passeggeri, the advanced training program in publishing, photography, and graphic design, also promoted by KAR in collaboration with the publishing house Iperborea and the magazine The Passenger. The festival's spaces for listening and discussion are thus nourished by the workshop activities of Passeggeri, in a continuous dialogue between editorial production and cultural reflection.

A typical evening

The events generally take place at 9:30 PM, preceded by a convivial aperitif that invites attendees to experience the festival as a moment of community as well as in-depth discussion. The intimate setting of the Palazzo della Signoria courtyard, with the audience seated under the arcades, creates a cozy and secluded atmosphere, far from the dispersed dimensions of large events.

Why it's worth it

  • A city-sized, free, and accessible event in the historic center of Jesi.
  • A program built around literatures and cultures not often featured in mainstream circuits.
  • The setting of Palazzo della Signoria, a symbolic monument of the Frederickian city.
  • The connection with the world of quality publishing thanks to Passeggeri and Iperborea.
