About Cantine Aperte Marramiero

Every year on the last weekend of May, Cantina Marramiero opens its doors for Cantine Aperte, the national event organized by the Wine Tourism Movement. Nestled in the hills of Rosciano, in the heart of the Terre dei Vestini near Pescara, visitors can taste the estate's wines, explore the winemaking rooms and barrel cellar at their own pace, enjoy local gastronomic specialties, and join guided vertical masterclasses with a sommelier by reservation. Two days of wine tourism, live music, and conviviality celebrating the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

Cantine Aperte at Marramiero: two days dedicated to Abruzzo wine

Cantine Aperte is the historic national event promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, inviting enthusiasts to step inside Italy's finest wineries every last weekend of May. In Rosciano, a small town in the province of Pescara set among the rolling hills of the Terre dei Vestini, the spotlight shines on Cantina Marramiero, one of Abruzzo's most esteemed wine estates.

A family estate in the heart of the Vestini

The winery, which now spans over eighty hectares of vineyards in the Sant'Andrea district, traces its roots back to vines planted about a century ago. It was under Dante Marramiero, between the late eighties and early nineties, that the estate took on its current identity, focusing firmly on native Abruzzo grape varieties: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Cerasuolo. The crown jewel is the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva Inferi, a long-aged wine born from the dream of Dante and his son Enrico, which has become a symbol of the region's winemaking excellence.

What to experience during the event

During the Cantine Aperte weekend, Marramiero offers a self-guided tour route with information points along the way in key areas, from the winemaking rooms to the evocative barrel cellar. There is no shortage of tasting opportunities and local flavor discovery.

  • Tastings of the estate's wines, from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo to steel-aged Chardonnay
  • Food stalls featuring specialties and typical products from the Abruzzo region
  • Vertical masterclasses led by a professional sommelier, by reservation, featuring historic vintages of flagship labels
  • Live music to accompany the days
  • Ample parking areas available for visitors

An opportunity to discover the territory

Participating in Cantine Aperte at Marramiero means more than just tasting great wines; it is an immersion into the hilly landscape of Rosciano and an introduction to a winemaking tradition that has made Abruzzo a star on both national and international tables. The initiative is part of the broader Cantine Aperte program in Abruzzo, involving dozens of wineries across the region, from the Colline Teramane to the Vestini area.
