In Cantello, in the province of Varese, white asparagus is much more than a vegetable: it is a symbol of identity and tradition. The Asparagus Fair, whose first edition dates back to 1939, is one of the oldest gastronomic events in Lombardy and will reach its 84th edition in 2026. The absolute star is the De.Co. (Denominazione Comunale) asparagus of Cantello, grown on the sandy soils of the area.

Two weekends of taste

The fair takes place over two weekends under the marquee in Via Collodi. In the kitchen, asparagus is featured in every form: asparagus risotto, asparagus à la Bismarck, asparagus lasagna, accompanied by the unmissable mixed grill. Every evening the festival comes alive with live music, DJ sets, and dance orchestras, while Sundays are dedicated to the artisan market and workshops for children.

A tradition that is renewed

Organized by Pro Loco Cantello — which in 2026 celebrates 60 years of activity — the fair is the heart of the Cantello spring. On Sundays, the competition to award the best asparagus grown in the area also takes place, a moment that testifies to the deep bond between the community and this crop.
