Cammino Ovigliese

A walk through the Alessandria countryside

The Cammino Ovigliese is a popular, non-competitive walking event organized by the Pro Loco Oviglio in the municipality of Oviglio, in the province of Alessandria (Piedmont). The event highlights the local "Cammino Ovigliese" hiking project, which has mapped and marked a network of circular trails around the town, turning them for one day into a widespread festival open to families, hikers, and nature lovers.

The territory: between Monferrato and the Langhe

Oviglio stands on a gentle plateau between the wine-growing areas of the Monferrato and the Langhe, not far from the Tanaro river. The village is dominated by the Castello di Oviglio, a 14th-century residence, and houses the parish church of Santi Felice e Agata. The surrounding area is characterized by cereal fields and vineyards, which provide the backdrop for the entire walking route.

Short and long routes

The walk offers two trails of different lengths, designed to satisfy both those looking for a leisurely stroll and those who want to tackle a more challenging itinerary:

• Short route: a shorter loop, suitable for families and those who want a light walk around Oviglio.
• Long route: a more extensive itinerary that reaches towards the nearby hamlets and municipalities, crossing countryside and hilly sections.

The routes follow the marked trails of the Cammino Ovigliese, passing through nearby localities and towns such as Carentino and Bergamasco, where rest and refreshment points are provided.

A community gathering

In addition to the walk, the day is enlivened by the Pro Loco with refreshment points and moments of conviviality. For the event, the Pro Loco has reopened its bar in the town center, confirming the association's role as a driving force for the social life of Oviglio. The Cammino Ovigliese is part of a calendar of initiatives that the Pro Loco dedicates to promoting the territory and its typical products, from cereals to local wines.
