About Calici di Stelle

On the night of San Lorenzo, the medieval village of Castiglione di Sicilia transforms into a vast open-air wine lounge. Calici di Stelle brings the finest labels from the Etna region to the squares and alleys of the historic center: guided tastings with sommeliers, white, red, and rosé wines, music, and the magical atmosphere of the August sky. An event celebrating Sicilian wine tourism and the extraordinary viticultural vocation of the slopes of Mount Etna, in the province of Catania.

Calici di Stelle in Castiglione di Sicilia

Calici di Stelle is the grand wine festival that, on the night of San Lorenzo, brings the historic center of Castiglione di Sicilia to life. Nestled on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in the province of Catania, it is one of Sicily's most evocative medieval villages. The event is part of a national series promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, which every summer turns Italy's squares and wineries into meeting places for enthusiasts, producers, and curious visitors under the starry sky.

A village among the Etna vineyards

Castiglione di Sicilia boasts one of the highest concentrations of wineries in the Etna area: nearly seventy producers operate in the district, acting as guardians of native grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante. It is in this unique setting, characterized by lava stone, historic palaces, and views of the volcano, that the event takes place.

Tastings and atmosphere

Tasting stations are spread throughout the village's most iconic spots, including Piazza Lauria, Piazza Sant'Antonio, and the Castello di Lauria, home to the Regional Wine Cellar for Eastern Sicily. Sommeliers from the Italian Sommelier Association guide visitors through a tasting journey featuring white, red, and rosé wines, while music resonates through the charming corners of the ancient center.

  • Tastings guided by AIS sommeliers
  • Wines from Etna territory wineries
  • Gastronomic areas with local products
  • Live music throughout the village alleys
  • Free shuttle service from parking areas

A staple of Sicilian wine tourism

Calici di Stelle has become one of the best-known food and wine events in Eastern Sicily, attracting numerous wine tourists and international visitors every year. The festival combines wine culture with the discovery of the historical and landscape heritage of Castiglione di Sicilia, offering an experience that intertwines taste, tradition, and local beauty. The event is organized by the Municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia in collaboration with the Movimento Turismo del Vino, the Regional Wine Cellar for Eastern Sicily, and the Italian Sommelier Association, with the patronage of local GALs.

The event will once again feature tastings of Etna wines in the squares of the medieval village.
