The reading festival that fills the center of Città di Castello with books and words
In Città di Castello, a city of art in the Province of Perugia overlooking the Upper Tiber Valley, CaLibro has become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year. Organized by the Associazione Il Fondino, the festival was born around a simple and powerful idea: to bring books out of the pages and into the city, transforming squares, libraries, bookstores, and historic buildings into meeting places between authors and readers.
The program alternates book presentations, dialogues with writers, readings, screenings, workshops for children, and musical moments. Over the years, CaLibro has hosted prominent voices from the Italian and international literary scene, with a particular focus on stories capable of crossing borders and cultures. The venues are the most beautiful places in the historic center of Città di Castello: the Teatro degli Illuminati, the Pinacoteca Comunale, Renaissance palaces such as Palazzo Bufalini and Palazzo del Podestà, and the city's libraries and bookstores.
The festival naturally dialogues with the artistic identity of Città di Castello, a city that houses the works of Alberto Burri and the frescoes of Luca Signorelli. Exhibitions and installations complement the literary encounters, while music accompanies the evenings. CaLibro is an experience also designed for those visiting northern Umbria for the first time: the perfect opportunity to combine a passion for books with the discovery of an authentic artistic village.
For four days, from March 26 to 29, 2026, events, special guests, art, and literature will once again transform the center of Città di Castello. The edition opens on Thursday, March 26, with the inauguration of the exhibition and continues with encounters, readings, and installations. Among the announced guests are writer Antonio Moresco and singer-songwriter Paolo Benvegnù. On Saturday, March 28, in the spaces of the Torrione, there will be a tribute to Pier Vittorio Tondelli (1955-1991) in his sixtieth birthday year.
The complete program of events, with times and venues for each appointment, will be published on the official website closer to the event.
