The summer parish festival of the hamlet of Budrione, between faith, fried dumplings and community
The Budrione Festival is the historic summer parish festival of Budrione, a hamlet of just over a thousand inhabitants in the Municipality of Carpi, in the Province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. Organized by the Parish of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle of Budrione and Migliarina, the festival is part of the rich calendar of parish festivals of the Diocese of Carpi and represents one of the most anticipated moments of the summer for the small community of the Bassa modenese.
Like many festivals in the Emilian plain, Budrione's has its roots in an ancient devotional and popular tradition. The summer festival is dedicated to Saint Louis and intertwines two souls: on one hand, moments of faith, with the solemn Holy Mass, the procession, and moments of prayer and adoration; on the other, community celebration, made up of shared meals, music, and fun. It is the occasion when the village comes together, generations meet, and parish volunteering brings intense days of conviviality to life.
The gastronomic heart of the festival is its cuisine, with the typical flavors of Emilian tradition. The absolute star is the gnocco fritto (fried dumplings), served hot and also available for takeaway, accompanied by local cured meats. There are also piadine, sandwiches, and specialties prepared by volunteers. On the main days, the restaurant stand also opens, usually by reservation, where you can enjoy traditional Modenese peasant dishes in a simple and genuine atmosphere.
Alongside good food, the festival offers evening entertainment for all ages: live music, shows, animation, and, in past editions, even magic shows. Completing the program are the unmissable charity initiatives of the village festival, such as the lottery, the charity fishing, and the market, the proceeds of which support the activities of the parish and the community.
The focal point of the festival is the Church of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle, the spiritual heart of the hamlet, rebuilt in its current form starting from the mid-seventeenth century and elevated to archpriest in 1921. Returned to the community after reconstruction work following the earthquake, the church remains a strong identity-forming place for the inhabitants of Budrione. Visiting the festival thus means discovering an authentic corner of the Carpi countryside, far from the major tourist circuits but rich in human warmth and genuine flavors.
The Budrione Festival 2026 takes place from June 20 to 23 at the Church of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle and the parish spaces of Budrione, a hamlet in the Municipality of Carpi, Province of Modena. As per tradition, the festival alternates moments of faith and conviviality: liturgical celebrations, food stalls with gnocco fritto and Emilian specialties, the restaurant stand, evenings of music and entertainment, as well as the unmissable lottery and charity fishing.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with schedules for evenings and events, will be published by the parish and the Diocese of Carpi in the weeks preceding the festival. For updated information, you can contact the Parish of Budrione and Migliarina directly.
