The premier national gathering for youth speed skating in Martinsicuro
The Bruno Tiezzi National Games are one of the most anticipated events in the Italian youth speed skating calendar. Reserved for the Giovanissimi (8-9 years old) and Esordienti (10-11 years old) categories, the event brings together hundreds of young athletes registered with Skate Italia, the racing division of the Italian Roller Sports Federation (FISR). It is a traveling event that changes host cities each year: in 2026, the choice fell on Martinsicuro, a seaside town in the Val Vibrata area of the province of Teramo, in Abruzzo.
It is no coincidence that the Games stopped in the municipality of Martinsicuro. The city boasts a long skating tradition thanks to the A.S.D. Rolling Pattinatori D. Bosica, a local landmark for over forty years and the event's organizer. The races took place on the Anello del Tempo Libero, the recently renovated 175-meter track on the Lungomare Europa, named after Domenico Bosica. The event took on even greater symbolic value in the year that the Val Vibrata region was recognized as a 2026 European Community of Sport.
The program spans three intense days. The first is dedicated to official track practice and the opening parade of the clubs, a picturesque moment that officially kicks off the Games. The following days are filled with competitions: for each category, four races are scheduled, consisting of two skill tests and two speed tests, with varying distances depending on the age group. The grand finale is the evening award ceremony, followed by a closing party with a DJ set.
The Bruno Tiezzi Games are part of the rich summer calendar of the municipality of Martinsicuro, which offers shows, music, sports, and traditions throughout the season across the Villa Rosa district and the town center. At the end of the races, the traditional Summer Camp begins, offering young athletes the chance to continue their technical development and strengthen the friendships formed during the event. For the Abruzzo region, the event represents not only a national-level sports showcase but also a valuable opportunity for tourism promotion.
For the first time, the Bruno Tiezzi National Games stopped in Martinsicuro, in the province of Teramo, from June 11th to 13th, 2026. The event kicked off on Thursday with official track practice and the opening parade of the clubs at 6:00 PM. Friday and Saturday were dedicated to competitions, with skill and speed races for Giovanissimi and Esordienti, culminating in the award ceremony on Saturday evening at 9:00 PM, followed by a closing DJ set.
The edition recorded record-breaking numbers: over 638 athletes, 87 clubs, and 16 regions represented. The event took place in the year that the Val Vibrata region was awarded the title of European Community of Sport. At the end of the Games, the traditional Summer Camp reserved for the same categories began.
