The national FIGB championships dedicated to young people and new players, held at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Salsomaggiore Terme
The Bridge Cadets Championships and the 2nd-3rd Category and NC Pairs Trophy represent one of the most anticipated events in the Italian Bridge Federation (FIGB) competitive calendar. The event takes place at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Salsomaggiore Terme, on Viale Romagnosi, in the heart of the renowned spa town in the Province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna. For many years, Salsomaggiore has been the permanent venue for major FIGB national championships, and on this occasion, it opens its doors to the new generation of one of the most widespread mind sports in the world.
The competition is divided into several sectors, designed to accompany players throughout their growth journey. The Cadets Championships follow the division provided by the Bridge School into three distinct sectors:
Alongside the Cadets Championships, the 2nd and 3rd Category and NC (Unclassified) Open Pairs Trophy is held, reserved for players in the broader federal categories. It is a valuable opportunity for those approaching competitive play to test themselves in an official setting, in a spirit of healthy challenge and friendship.
The event format unfolds over a weekend. The qualifying phase takes place on Friday, followed by the semifinals on Saturday afternoon and the finals held between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Sunday concludes with the awards ceremony, accompanied by the national anthem, in line with federal sporting tradition. During the event, official Championship bulletins are published daily, collecting and commenting on the most interesting hands from the competition days.
With its spa tradition and large congress facilities, Salsomaggiore Terme has established itself over the years as the home of Italian bridge: the Palazzo dei Congressi, due to its size and logistics, hosts hundreds of pairs and teams from every region. The Cadets Championships regularly attract nearly six hundred participants, transforming the town in the Province of Parma into a major meeting point for enthusiasts, instructors, and families. For the Emilia-Romagna Region, it is a showcase that combines mind sports, spa tourism, and hospitality.
