About Brazilian Festival Magliana

For one afternoon, Parco Tevere Magliana transforms into a slice of Brazil. Organized by the Habicura association with the patronage of Rome's Municipio XI, the Brazilian Festival brings together samba and forró performances, capoeira demonstrations, live music, and authentic South American street food. This free event is open to families and curious visitors alike, celebrating Brazilian culture in one of the city's most vibrant riverside parks and highlighting the Magliana district as a hub for community connection.

A Brazilian afternoon on the banks of the Tiber

The Brazilian Festival at Parco Tevere Magliana is one of the most distinctive spring events in the southwestern part of Rome. Born from the initiative of the Habicura association, which manages and enlivens the riverside park, the festival brings the sounds, colors, and flavors of Brazil to the Magliana district for an entire afternoon of free entertainment. The event takes place within the Municipality of Rome, specifically in the territory of Municipio XI Roma Arvalia Portuense, which sponsors the initiative, and is firmly established in the Lazio Region's community event calendar.

Music, dance, and capoeira

The heart of the festival is live music. Samba performances fill the afternoon with percussion and traditional costumes, while forró—the typical couple's dance from Brazil's Northeast—invites the public to join in on an improvised open-air dance floor. There is also capoeira, the Afro-Brazilian martial art and dance practiced in a circle (the famous roda) to the rhythm of the berimbau: a demonstration that remains one of the most popular highlights, especially among younger crowds.

  • Samba performances and workshops
  • Forró dancing open to the public
  • Capoeira demonstrations
  • Concerts and live music
  • Tasting of traditional Brazilian dishes

Brazilian gastronomy

Next to the stage, food stalls offer specialties prepared by Rome's Brazilian community: from salgadinhos like coxinha and pastel to grilled churrasco, and sweets made with condensed milk and coconut. It is the perfect opportunity for those unfamiliar with this cuisine to sample authentic dishes in an informal, convivial setting while relaxing on the park's lawns.

Parco Tevere Magliana, a neighborhood landmark

The riverside park hosting the festival was created through the redevelopment of a Tiber flood zone and has been active for over a decade. Managed with the contribution of Habicura and numerous local associations, it hosts concerts, sports initiatives, meetings, and community festivals throughout the year. The Brazilian Festival is perhaps its most recognizable expression: an event that unites Rome's Brazilian community—one of the largest South American groups in the city—with the local residents of the district.

An event for everyone

Admission is free, and the afternoon format makes the festival particularly suitable for families with children: the park's green spaces allow visitors to enjoy shows and concerts without the crowds of major city events. The atmosphere is that of an extended neighborhood party, where people dance, eat, and socialize until evening. Visitors in Rome during this time can discover a side of the city far from the usual tourist circuits: a multicultural capital that tells its story through its diverse communities.

When it takes place

The event is traditionally held in spring, usually in the second half of March, starting in the early afternoon and continuing until evening. Exact dates are announced year by year through the park's channels and the Municipio XI notices: it is advisable to check them before planning your trip.

Brazilian Festival Magliana — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Brazilian Festival at Parco Tevere Magliana has not yet been officially announced. The Habicura association, which manages the riverside park in Rome's Municipio XI, usually announces the date in the weeks leading up to the event, which is traditionally held in the spring. The expected format remains the established one: free admission, live music, dance, and Brazilian gastronomy in an afternoon open to the entire neighborhood.
