About Stelle d'Estate Magliana

Stelle d'Estate at Parco Tevere Magliana is an astronomical outreach festival brought to the green spaces of Rome's Municipio XI by the AstronomiAmo APS association every summer. Between June and July, the park overlooking the Tiber transforms into an open-air observatory, offering guided talks on the life cycle of stars, galaxies, and the Moon, alongside telescope viewings perfect for families, children, and curious minds. A free event that blends science, nature, and community under the capital's sky.

An open-air astronomy festival

Stelle d'Estate at Parco Tevere Magliana is a series of astronomical outreach evenings organized by the AstronomiAmo APS association, under the patronage of Rome's Municipio XI. In the heart of the Magliana district, the park overlooking the Tiber becomes a summer meeting point for stargazing, guided by experts who explain the universe in accessible language, free of complex formulas.

How the evenings unfold

Each event begins after sunset, usually around 9:30 PM, and alternates between thematic storytelling and direct observation. The focus is on the life cycle of starsโ€”from their birth in nebulae to planetary nebulae, supernovae, and black holesโ€”as well as galaxies, planets, and the Moon, often linked to major space exploration milestones. Participation is free and designed for a wide audience, from families with children to astronomy enthusiasts.

  • Guided astronomy talks by association experts
  • Stargazing of the summer sky, weather permitting
  • Free admission events, suitable for all ages
  • Set in the greenery of Parco Tevere Magliana, on the banks of the river

A project for the neighborhood

The festival stems from a desire to promote local scientific culture and turn the park into a place for meeting, learning, and cultural enjoyment. AstronomiAmo APS is active throughout the year in Municipio XI with dedicated astronomy courses on the sky and the Solar System, bringing this same accessible, free, and open-air outreach to the community during the summer.

Rome, Municipio XI, and the Lazio region

Parco Tevere Magliana is located in Municipio XI of Rome, along the course of the Tiber in the southwestern part of the city. As part of the Lazio region and the numerous initiatives of the 'Estate Romana' (Roman Summer), the event offers a free cultural alternative to the city's hot evenings, combining a gaze toward the stars with the rediscovery of a local green space.

Stelle d'Estate Magliana โ€” edition 2026

For summer 2026, Parco Tevere Magliana is once again preparing to host the astronomical outreach evenings by AstronomiAmo APS in Rome's Municipio XI. Dates and the detailed program have not yet been officially published: the free, open-air festival is expected to renew its annual appointment with summer stargazing between June and July.

The 2026 edition of Stelle d'Estate at Parco Tevere Magliana is expected to follow the tradition of evenings proposed by AstronomiAmo APS under the patronage of Municipio XI of Rome. At the moment, the official calendar and the titles of individual evenings have not been published. As in past editions, a series of free evening meetings dedicated to astronomy is expected, featuring educational talks and sky observation, weather permitting. Information will be updated as soon as the program is announced by the organizers.
