The travelling festival of the Roman Summer in Municipality XI
I Viaggi dell'Arte is one of the most deeply rooted events of the Estate Romana, reaching its 18th edition in 2026. Promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of Culture as part of the «Roma Creativa 365» public notice and produced in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura, the event is organised by the Compagnia Artenova under the artistic direction of Gino Auriuso, with the patronage of Municipality Rome XI Arvalia Portuense.
The heart of the festival beats at Parco Tevere Magliana, but its nature is itinerant: for eleven days, performances and workshops traverse the neighbourhoods of Rome's Municipality XI, from Magliana to Marconi, from Trullo to Corviale, and on to Muratella. The goal is to bring culture to the suburbs and transform parks and squares into open-air stages, restoring spaces of sociality and beauty to the inhabitants just a short distance from the Tiber.
Every evening at 9:00 PM, Parco Tevere Magliana hosts theatre, music, and storytelling performances with free admission. The programme alternates between renowned performers, traditional works, and new dramaturgy, with a special focus on the dialogue between different genres and languages.
Alongside the performances, the festival offers a rich programme of free artistic workshops dedicated to children, teenagers, and families: creative recycling, cinema, theatre, circus, and percussion. Each discipline is hosted on a rotating basis in a different neighbourhood, involving the local community in a journey that culminates in the Festa VDA, the grand intergenerational closing party.
Entirely free of charge, I Viaggi dell'Arte is designed as a community celebration: a way to experience the Roman summer away from the tourist circuits, rediscovering the cultural vocation of a territory often on the margins. For the city of Rome and the Lazio Region, it represents a model of widespread and participatory culture, capable of bringing together spectators of every generation.
The 18th edition of I Viaggi dell'Arte, under the artistic direction of Gino Auriuso and organised by the Compagnia Artenova, animates Rome's Municipality XI from July 30 to August 9, 2026. Evening performances are held at Parco Tevere Magliana from July 30 to August 4, while artistic workshops tour the neighbourhoods until August 9, the day of the final Festa VDA. The event is promoted by Roma Capitale as part of the «Roma Creativa 365» public notice, with the patronage of Municipality Rome XI Arvalia Portuense.
