Free concerts featuring folk, jazz, and world music in the Chiostro del Buon Pastore
The Bravetta Music Fest is one of the most original summer events in Rome, Lazio. Rather than taking place in a historic city square or a standard arena, it is held inside the Chiostro del Buon Pastore, a monumental complex designed by architect Armando Brasini starting in 1929 along Via di Bravetta, on the edge of the Valle dei Casali nature reserve. The arches and niches surrounding the cloister provide extraordinary natural acoustics, which convinced the organizers to make it the permanent stage for the event.
The festival is not limited to a single genre: the artistic direction, curated by Alberto Laruccia, focuses on cross-genre music—that borderland where folk meets jazz, fusion dialogues with Mediterranean traditions, and world music opens windows to Asia Minor, the Balkans, and Africa. Over the years, the cloister stage has hosted international ensembles, research projects on singer-songwriter music, and high-quality instrumental groups, with a constant focus on proposals that rarely find space in commercial circuits.
Since 2025, the Bravetta Music Fest has been the core of a broader project, Luglio nel Chiostro (July in the Cloister), which spans the entire month and adds two newer sections to the historic festival: Chiostro d'Autore, dedicated to contemporary Italian singer-songwriters, and Passione Lirica, reserved for opera and chamber music. The result is a calendar covering fifteen consecutive evenings, spanning diverse registers from Argentine tango to Italian melodrama.
The philosophy declared by the organizers is clear: "culture and art are a common good, an indispensable right." For this reason, all shows are free to attend, with no reservations required, until seating capacity is reached. The project is promoted by the Musica e Arte ETS association, active in Rome since 1994, with the support of District XII and the patronage of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital.
The evenings are accompanied by side initiatives that enhance the location: in the 2026 edition, the exhibition The History of the Buon Pastore, divided into six sections, tells the story of the architectural complex and the surrounding area through documents, images, and oral testimonies from former residents and nuns. The public can arrive early to visit the spaces before the show begins.
Bravetta is a peripheral district of the capital, far from the tourist circuits, and that is precisely why the festival has a unique flavor: it is an event made primarily for locals, but which has attracted a city-wide audience over the years thanks to the quality of the performances and the beauty of the space. Those looking for a Roman experience different from the usual evenings in the center will find research-based music, an intimate atmosphere, and no tickets to buy.
In 2026, the Bravetta Music Fest reaches the milestone of its fifth edition and is part of the Luglio nel Chiostro project, which brings fifteen consecutive evenings of live performances to the Chiostro del Buon Pastore in Rome, at Via di Bravetta 383. The Bravetta Music Fest section occupies two blocks of dates, from July 17–19 and July 23–26, remaining faithful to its vocation: folk, jazz, fusion, world music, and Mediterranean traditions in dialogue with one another.
Two debut sections are developed around the festival: Chiostro d'Autore, on July 21 and 22, dedicated to contemporary Italian singer-songwriters, and Passione Lirica, from July 28 to 31, which closes the month with opera repertoire and instrumental music, culminating in the final Lyric Grand Gala. The project is funded by Rome's District XII with the patronage of the Metropolitan City; SIAE and Radio Rock are among the media partners.
Throughout the duration of the event, visitors can explore the exhibition The History of the Buon Pastore, six sections that reconstruct the history of the Brasini complex, the Valle dei Casali area, and the people who lived there, through oral testimonies of former residents and nuns.
All events start at 9 PM in the Chiostro del Buon Pastore. Artistic direction by Alberto Laruccia; classical music consulting by Alessandro Avallone and Simone Veccia.
The Chiostro del Buon Pastore is located at Via di Bravetta 383, in Rome's District XII. By car, it can be reached from Via Aurelia or the Circonvallazione Gianicolense; parking is available inside the complex. By public transport, the Bravetta district is served by urban bus lines connecting the Roma Trastevere railway station and the Cornelia metro terminal (Line A).
All shows start at 9 PM. Admission is free until seating capacity is reached: it is recommended to arrive at least half an hour early, especially for the most anticipated evenings.
