Borgo Vivo is an artistic and cultural festival held in the historic center of Pedara, a town in the Metropolitan City of Catania located on the southern slopes of Mount Etna, in Sicily. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Pedara, transforms the town's streets and squares for an entire weekend into an immersive trail of art, crafts, and traditions, restoring the vibrancy to the village that gives the event its name.
Along the streets of the center, particularly in the area of Via Leonardi and Piazza Don Bosco, a series of stalls and installations showcase the region's creativity. The program combines diverse languages, from fine art to folk traditions, in a welcoming atmosphere accessible to everyone.
Borgo Vivo was created as an opportunity to discover and experience the ancient heart of Pedara, enhancing the village's heritage and traditions. Admission is free, and the event is designed as a community experience, attracting both residents and visitors from neighboring Etnean towns. The first editions were held in 2023 and 2025, confirming the town's commitment to showcasing its cultural identity.
Pedara, located at an altitude of about 600 meters on the slopes of Mount Etna, is part of the Etnean district, a short distance from Catania. Visiting Borgo Vivo is also an opportunity to discover a territory that combines volcanic nature, Baroque architecture, and Sicilian traditions in a fresh and evocative setting during the spring and summer months.
For the 2026 edition, Borgo Vivo in Pedara is scheduled for June, but at the moment, the Municipality has not yet released the precise dates or the detailed program. As in past editions, one can expect an immersive trail through the historic center featuring crafts, art, re-enactments, music, and local produce. Information will be updated as soon as it is published by the organization.
Pedara is located in the province of Catania, on the southern side of Mount Etna. By car, it can be reached from the Catania ring road by taking the exit towards the Etnean towns; it is approximately 20 km from Catania-Fontanarossa Airport. Bus connections from the Etna area are available.
Admission to the event is free. The festival takes place in the historic center with a pedestrian route winding through streets and squares.
