The summer jazz festival in the historic center of Sansepolcro
Every summer, the historic center of Sansepolcro, in the heart of the Tuscan Valtiberina, transforms into a grand open-air stage thanks to Borgo Jazz. The festival brings live music to the squares, cloisters, and alleys of the city of Piero della Francesca, in the province of Arezzo, treating residents and visitors to evenings of concerts, shows, and entertainment. It is one of the most anticipated events of Estate al Borgo, the summer program that enlivens the town from June to September.
Borgo Jazz is organized by the Jazz Club Valtiberina association, in collaboration with the local Merchants' Association and with the support of the Municipality of Sansepolcro. Established around 2019, after a hiatus due to the pandemic, the event has restarted with renewed energy, alternating editions that have successfully woven the great tradition of Italian jazz with a focus on new generations of musicians.
Over the years, the festival has hosted some of the leading figures of Italian jazz, including prominent trumpeters, clarinetists, pianists, and double bassists. Alongside concerts by established names, Borgo Jazz provides a platform for young talents with contests dedicated to emerging bands, and complements the music with initiatives of social and cultural value, such as readings, film screenings, and moments of reflection on civil themes.
What makes Borgo Jazz special is the dialogue between the music and the Renaissance architecture of Sansepolcro: the notes resonate among the stones of the historic center, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere rarely found in large festivals. The musical events are free of charge, a choice that makes the festival accessible to everyone and a precious opportunity to discover the Valtiberina city, its traditions, and its cultural vibrancy.
Borgo Jazz is part of a particularly rich summer calendar that has led Sansepolcro to establish itself as a true 'City of Festivals,' with major events such as the Kilowatt Festival, the Palio della Balestra, and other festivals that attract audiences from all over Tuscany and beyond. An ideal destination for those seeking culture, music, and beauty in the heart of Italy.
