The medieval village of Caprile blooms with floral displays, Ciociaria flavors, wandering musicians, and trekking
Borgo in Fiore is the spring festival of the medieval village of Caprile, a small district of the municipality of Roccasecca, in the province of Frosinone, in the heart of the Ciociaria region of southern Lazio. For an entire weekend, the stone alleys, stairways, and arches of the village are decorated with floral arrangements: every corner becomes a stage, and every narrow street a path to be explored slowly, with the scent of flowers mingling with the aromas of home-cooked food.
Caprile is one of the most evocative villages in the Liri-Sacco valley, recognized as one of the FAI 'Places of the Heart'. This ancient settlement, perched on the mountain slopes, is largely uninhabited throughout the year, but comes alive with voices, lights, and energy during this event. The festival was born from the local community's desire to showcase this heritage, maintaining a deliberately familiar and grassroots feel.
Walking through the village means embarking on a journey of flavors: scattered food stalls are distributed throughout the alleys and cellars, offering traditional Ciociaria peasant dishes accompanied by local wines. There is no single dining area, but rather a series of stations that invite you to wander, taste, and stop to chat with the cooks.
The program combines taste, conviviality, and entertainment for all ages. Wandering folk music, with traditional singers moving through the alleys, accompanies your stroll from the early afternoon, while the evening brings live concerts and DJ sets that keep the village lively until late at night. The fire shows by fire-eaters in the central square are highly anticipated, providing the most iconic photo opportunity of the event.
For families, there is a kids' area with entertainment, face painting, and games, while the Sunday morning treasure huntโwhere participants search for a colored stone to win a gastronomic prizeโengages both adults and children along the village streets.
On Sunday morning, the program kicks off with a nature trek: a guided excursion that starts from the village and climbs toward the hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo, one of the most fascinating spiritual sites in the Roccasecca area, embedded in the rock and overlooking the valley. It is a way to connect the festival to the surrounding landscape and discover the hiking potential of this part of the Ciociaria.
Roccasecca is best known as the town where the castle of the Counts of Aquino is located, linked to the figure of Saint Thomas Aquinas, and as a gateway to a territory rich in trails, hermitages, and small villages. Borgo in Fiore is therefore much more than a spring festival: it is an opportunity to visit Caprile at its most vibrant, enjoying the intimate atmosphere of Apennine villages and the typical hospitality of the province of Frosinone.
Admission to the event is free: you only pay for what you consume at the stalls. Every year, the organization provides a continuous free shuttle service from the center of Roccasecca to the village, which is essential given the limited parking space near Caprile, as well as a camper area available starting Friday. This logistical attention makes the festival convenient even for those arriving from outside the province.
During the weekend of April 11-12, 2026, the village of Caprile, in Roccasecca, hosted a new edition of Borgo in Fiore, organized in collaboration with PrimaVera Studentesca. On Saturday, the festival opened at 6:00 PM and continued until 1:00 AM, while on Sunday, the village was animated from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
With food stalls distributed throughout the alleys, wandering music from traditional singers, fire-eaters, and a kids' area, the edition confirmed the formula that makes this event one of the most popular spring gatherings in the province of Frosinone. The services facilitating the visit were also confirmed: a continuous free shuttle from the center of Roccasecca to the village and a camper area available from Friday.
Food stalls serving traditional Ciociaria dishes and local wines were open throughout the event.
By car: A1 Rome-Naples motorway, exit at Caianello or Cassino, then follow the SS Casilina to Roccasecca. By train: Roccasecca station on the Rome-Cassino-Naples line. A continuous free shuttle service to the village of Caprile operates from the center of Roccasecca throughout the event; we strongly recommend using it, as the access road to the village is narrow and parking spaces are extremely limited.
Admission is free. You only pay for food and drinks at the stalls.
