The traditional Carnival through the alleys of Belmonte in Sabina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Borgo Carnival is the festival that every year, during the Carnival season between February and March, brings the historic center of Belmonte in Sabina to life. Perched at an altitude of over 750 meters in the province of Rieti, in the heart of the Sabina region, the village becomes a true open-air stage for an entire day, where carnival tradition intertwines with the identity of a small but proud community.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of floats and masked groups as they wind through the village streets. From the morning on, Belmonte fills with colors, confetti, and joy: participants, masked for the occasion, join the festive parade that involves everyone, from the elderly to children. It is a community Carnival, built by the inhabitants themselves, where the spectacular aspect gives way to spontaneous participation and the pleasure of coming together.
The day is accompanied by music, songs, and folk dances that set the rhythm of the celebration. There is no shortage of local gastronomic delicacies from the Sabina region—a land renowned for its extra virgin olive oil, cured meats, and typical products—offered along the village streets. The Borgo Carnival is thus also an opportunity to discover the authentic flavors of a Lazio territory often far from the beaten tourist paths.
Organized by the Pro Loco Belmonte in Sabina APS, together with the Festivities Committee, the ViviBelmonte association, and the Senior Center, with the patronage of the Municipality of Belmonte in Sabina, the Borgo Carnival represents one of the most cherished events in the local calendar. Part of the wider Rieti Carnival landscape, which colors the streets of Rieti and its provincial towns every year, this event preserves the intimate and genuine atmosphere of village festivals, where everyone knows each other and everyone participates.
During the Carnival period, between February and March, the historic center of Belmonte in Sabina comes alive again with the Borgo Carnival: parades of floats, masked groups, music, folk dances, and Sabina gastronomy. For the 2026 edition, the official date and detailed program have not yet been released by the Pro Loco Belmonte in Sabina. It is recommended to check for updates on the organizers' website and channels before planning your visit.
