About Jazz Friday

Every Friday, from September to June, the Boogie Club in Rome lights up the stage in the Portuense-Marconi district with Jazz Friday, the weekly series dedicated to auteur jazz. Roman ensembles and national guests take turns performing everything from contemporary jazz and Afro-Brazilian roots to tributes to the great masters and original projects, all in an intimate venue where you can enjoy live music with a drink in hand and the kitchen always open. A staple of the Roman jazz scene, now in its tenth season.

A Friday that lasts all season

In the heart of the Portuense-Marconi district, just minutes from Trastevere and the Basilica of Saint Paul, the Boogie Club in Rome (Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio) has built one of the most consistent live music programs in the capital. The heart of this schedule is Jazz Friday: every Friday, from September to June, the stage on Via Gaetano Astolfi is reserved for auteur jazz, featuring a different lineup each week under the artistic direction of Gabriele Buonasorte.

What you will hear

Jazz Friday is not a one-note series: the program alternates between contemporary jazz, Afro-Brazilian roots, modal jazz, bossa nova, reinterpreted standards, and original projects often presented as premieres. During the 2025/26 season, performers included the Stefano Rossini quartet with the Brazilian Jazz & Afro Roots project, the Gianni Oddi Quartet with a tribute to Miles Davis on the centenary of his birth, Arabella Rustico & Friends, the Carmen Falato Quartet, Fabio Tullio with Entanglements, Susanna Stivali with Il passo breve - Jazz on Poetry, and Toni Armetta's Threegonos - Modern Jazz Unity.

  • Contemporary jazz and improvisation โ€” original projects by musicians active on the Roman and national scene
  • Afro and Latin roots โ€” from Brazilian jazz to Afro-Cuban sounds
  • Tributes and homages โ€” reinterpretations of the great masters of the 20th century
  • Album launches โ€” new records performed live for the audience

More than just Fridays

Jazz Friday is the most recognizable event, but it is part of a broader calendar that covers the weekend, from Thursday to Sunday. Alongside jazz, there are themed evenings dedicated to funk, soul, and rhythm and blues, stand-up comedy shows, Roman singer-songwriter performances, and special guest nights. This formula has allowed the venue to build a loyal neighborhood following while attracting enthusiasts from across the city.

A tenth season

The season that kicked off on September 27, 2025, marked the venue's tenth anniversary: a significant milestone for a room that thrives on live acoustic music in a city where historic clubs often have short lives. The opening was entrusted to the Fulvio Tomaino Band, with a soul and rhythm and blues repertoire, while the first Jazz Friday of the season, on October 3, 2025, featured the Gabriele Buonasorte Quartet on stage.

The atmosphere

The Boogie Club started as a pub and has retained its informal spirit: close-set tables, simple and refined cuisine with vegetarian options, and a menu of wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails. Music starts around 9:30 PM, but the room opens at 8:00 PM, allowing guests to dine before the concert. Seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended, especially for jazz Fridays and nights with well-known guests.

The neighborhood

Portuense and Marconi are two of the most vibrant districts in Rome outside the city walls: residential and working-class areas that have seen an influx of new venues, cultural spaces, and independent businesses in recent years. The Boogie Club is one of the musical pillars of this area, easily accessible and with nearby parkingโ€”a far from secondary factor in Rome.

Jazz Friday โ€” edition 2026

The second half of the Boogie Club's tenth season brought Jazz Friday from January to June 2026, with a concert every Friday and a schedule of evenings extending through the weekend. Contemporary jazz, Afro-Brazilian roots, tributes to the masters, singer-songwriter music, and stand-up comedy alternated on the stage on Via Gaetano Astolfi, in Rome's Portuense-Marconi district.

Jazz Friday 2026

From January to June 2026, the Boogie Club in Rome completed the second part of its tenth season, with the Jazz Friday series as a staple of Friday nights and a program that covered jazz, funk, soul, singer-songwriter music, and live comedy from Thursday to Sunday.

The concerts

The month of January was entirely dedicated to jazz, with five evenings. In February, the series continued with the voice of Susanna Stivali and the presentation of a new album. Spring alternated between jazz and other genres, leading up to the June finale with two highly anticipated weekends. The program resumes in September for the eleventh season.

How it worked

Doors opened at 8:00 PM, live music from 9:30 PM, with the kitchen open all evening. Average music fee of about 7 euros and limited seating, with reservations recommended via phone or WhatsApp.
