The Roman Major of the Premier Padel circuit at the Foro Italico
The BNL Italy Major Premier Padel is the Italian leg of the Premier Padel circuit, the premier professional championship for this discipline. Together with the tournaments in Doha, Paris, and Acapulco, it forms the exclusive group of Majors, the events that award the most ranking points and offer the highest prize money of the season. It takes place in the Municipality of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the heart of Lazio, within the Foro Italico Park: the same complex that hosts the Italian Open tennis tournament.
The venue is part of the event's charm. The Pietrangeli court, with its crown of Carrara marble statues created in the 1930s, is considered one of the most scenic sports facilities in the world and is set up as the tournament's center court. Around it, the other playing courts—eleven in total, plus a mini-padel court—are installed, transforming the Foro Italico area into a true padel citadel, open to the public from morning until late at night.
The combined format, adopted in 2023, sees the men's and women's draws held simultaneously during the same week. Approximately 240 athletes take to the court—in the 2026 edition, 68 men's and 52 women's pairs—for a total of over one hundred matches spread over eight days. The first two days are dedicated to qualifiers and admission is free: it's the perfect time to see the players up close and wander freely among the secondary courts. From the third day, the main draws begin, with the entry of the top seeds and most anticipated pairs, leading up to the semifinals on Saturday and the double final on Sunday evening.
The professional tournament is surrounded by an entire padel week that involves the Italian movement at all levels:
The Roman Major is organized by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation with Sport e Salute, under the aegis of the International Padel Federation and the Professional Padel Association, with BNL BNP Paribas as title partner and the support of Rome Capital and the Lazio Region. The event is broadcast free-to-air on SuperTennis and covered by Sky Sport with dozens of hours of programming: exposure that has accompanied the rapid growth of padel in Italy, now among the top countries in the world for the number of players and courts.
For those visiting Rome between May and June, the Italy Major is a rare opportunity: a spectacular sport that is easy to follow even for newcomers, set in a monumental context reachable in just a few minutes from the city center, with affordable entry tickets and two completely free opening days. The atmosphere is typical of major Roman events: loud, warm, with the crowd participating in every rally and extending the day in the bars of the Della Vittoria district and along the Lungotevere.
The Foro Italico hosted the fifth Roman edition of the Major from May 31 to June 7, 2026, the first Major event of the Premier Padel season. The program brought together the men's and women's draws in the same week, with a range of events involving youth, amateurs, and wheelchair athletes.
Eleven courts plus a mini-padel court, the Pietrangeli as the center stadium, the Fan Village open every day, and free-to-air television coverage on SuperTennis accompanied by over fifty hours of programming on Sky Sport: the 2026 edition confirmed Rome as one of the key venues on the world circuit.
