About Bioparco at Sunset

Every Friday and Saturday throughout the summer, the Bioparco of Rome stays open until 9:30 PM for "Bioparco at Sunset": a series of evening openings that allow visitors to observe animals during the most evocative hour of twilight. In the heart of Villa Borghese, amidst keeper talks, wild aperitifs at the Oasi del Lago, and educational activities designed for families and children, the Roman zoological garden reveals itself in a fresh, quiet, and surprising new light.

The Bioparco of Rome lights up at sunset

With the arrival of summer, the Bioparco of Rome exceptionally extends its opening hours to host "Bioparco at Sunset," a series of evening events inviting you to discover the zoo during the most magical hour of the day. As the daytime heat gives way to the evening cool, many animals wake up and become more active: it is the perfect time to observe them in a different setting than during the day, immersed in the golden light of twilight filtering through the ancient trees of Villa Borghese.

When and how: the evenings

The evening openings take place every Friday and Saturday, from June 19th to August 1st, 2026. On these dates, the park remains open until 9:30 PM, with the last admission at 8:30 PM. This format allows you to experience the Bioparco without the rush or the heat of the midday sun, enjoying peaceful strolls along the paths that wind through the various wildlife areas.

The program: talks, aperitifs, and educational activities

Throughout the evenings, the park's keepers are available to the public for dedicated talks, sharing characteristics, habits, and curiosities about the hosted species: from elephants to bears, sea lions to lemurs, and even reptiles. It is a precious opportunity to approach the animal world through the eyes of those who know it closely and to understand the care and conservation work that the Bioparco carries out every day.

  • Keeper talks along the paths, with in-depth insights into the park's species;
  • Wild aperitif at the Oasi del Lago, in a charming corner overlooking the water;
  • Refreshment points located throughout the park, open for the duration of the evenings;
  • Educational and recreational activities included in the ticket price;
  • Face painting for the little ones on Saturday evenings.

Saturday thematic events

Every Saturday, the program is enriched with a different thematic event, specifically designed for families. The 2026 edition kicked off on June 19th with a concert at the Oasi del Lago performed by young artists from the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma's Young Artist Program, featuring famous arias from Verdi and Puccini; the following day was "Giraffe Day," dedicated to the park's giraffes. Among the summer highlights, Saturday, July 18th featured "When the Sun Sets," a story about the zoo's nocturnal life told through kamishibai, the ancient Japanese street theater art, accompanied by a station dedicated to night predators, featuring the eagle owl and the pygmy owl.

A family experience in the heart of Rome

Thanks to the relaxed pace and numerous offerings for children, "Bioparco at Sunset" is primarily a family-oriented event. The activities alternate between play and education, introducing the youngest visitors to wildlife and environmental protection in a simple and engaging way. The setting of Villa Borghese, the great historic park that houses the zoo, adds the charm of one of the city's most beloved green lungs to the evening.

The Bioparco, Rome, and Lazio

Established at the beginning of the 20th century, the Bioparco of Rome is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Italy and today stands as a wildlife park committed to species conservation and environmental education. Located in the Municipality of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the heart of Lazio, it represents one of the most popular cultural and naturalistic destinations in the region. The summer evening openings renew its appeal, offering Romans and tourists a different way to spend summer evenings just a stone's throw from the historic center.
