A day of trabocchi, Lecceta forest, live shows, and fireworks over the sea in Torino di Sangro
The Blue Flag Festival is the event through which the Municipality of Torino di Sangro, in the province of Chieti, celebrates the Blue Flag awardโthe international banner from the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) granted to coastal resorts that excel in water quality, services, and environmental management. The festival takes place in Borgata Marina, a stretch of the Adriatic coastline nestled along the picturesque Costa dei Trabocchi, just a stone's throw from the mouth of the Sangro River.
Established in 2025 to mark the first Blue Flag won by the Municipality, the event has become a staple of the Abruzzo summer: a full day designed to showcase the natural, cultural, and human heritage of the area, spanning from the pebble beach and historic trabocchi to the Lecceta forest that slopes down to the sea.
The day combines environmental awareness with popular entertainment. In the morning, the spotlight is on the "Punta Le Morge" trabocco, where a traditional fishing demonstration is held, keeping alive the memory of the ancient fishermen who once inhabited these structures on the sea. In the afternoon, the Lecceta of Torino di Sangro becomes an open-air classroom featuring readings, guided excursions, river biomonitoring workshops, and bird-ringing demonstrations.
The evening comes alive with video screenings by local students, performances by local associations, official greetings, and finally, a major live musical show. At midnight, the sky over Borgata Marina lights up with a fireworks display over the sea, the grand finale of the festival.
The Blue Flag Festival is also an opportunity to highlight the Municipality's commitment to an inclusive sea: an Inclusive Beach and a new Blue Point have been inaugurated at Borgata Marina, services designed to make the coastline truly accessible to everyone. This message encapsulates the spirit of the event: the beauty of the Abruzzo coast as a common good to be protected and shared.
Admission to all events is free. The festival is a perfect excuse to discover Torino di Sangro Marina, its crystal-clear waters, the trabocchi transformed into panoramic restaurants, and the inland villages of the Chieti province.
The second edition of the Blue Flag Festival in Torino di Sangro celebrates the renewal of the prestigious FEE award for the Borgata Marina beach. The program for July 10, 2026, alternates moments dedicated to the environment and nature with entertainment and shows throughout the day on the Costa dei Trabocchi coastline.
New this year is the inauguration of the Inclusive Beach and the opening of the new Blue Point at the entrance to Le Morge, services that make the sea accessible to everyone. Grand finale with a fireworks display over the sea at midnight.
