The floral bike ride of Arona on Lake Maggiore
The Biciclettata in Fiore has become a staple of spring in Arona: a non-competitive bike ride of approximately 6 kilometers that winds through the heart of Arona, an elegant town overlooking Lake Maggiore in the province of Novara, in lower Piedmont. The event is open to everyone, perfect for families and children, and every year it gathers hundreds of participants who adorn their bikes with flowers, balloons, and colorful decorations, turning the city streets into a cheerful two-wheeled parade.
The event is the most popular highlight of the Environmental Sustainability Festival, a three-day program promoted by the Municipality of Arona together with the Pro Loco and numerous local organizations. While Friday and Saturday are dedicated to schools, recycling workshops, and ecological initiatives, Sunday is reserved for the bike ride, which focuses on gentle mobility and the joy of rediscovering the city by pedaling safely, away from traffic.
The start is from Piazza del Popolo, the town's living room overlooking the water, from where the group winds along the Marconi lakefront, Corso Repubblica, and the streets of the center, until reaching the finish line at Largo Vidale. A refreshment stop is planned halfway through the route. The path is flat and accessible, designed to be enjoyed effortlessly even by the youngest participants.
A distinctive feature of the event is the strong involvement of schools: teachers and students from local schools participate in large numbers, and at the end of the ride, the school with the largest group is awarded a prize. It is a concrete way to introduce young people to environmental issues and active citizenship in a city like Arona, which has made the lake and its green spaces a core part of its identity.
Free and inclusive, the Biciclettata in Fiore is much more than just a bike ride: it is a community festival that combines light exercise, environmental awareness, and local tradition. In case of rain, the event is cancelled, but when the sun shines on the spring of Lake Maggiore, the streets of Arona fill with colors, bells, and smiles.
The Biciclettata in Fiore 2026 concluded the Environmental Sustainability Festival of Arona (May 22-24) on Sunday, May 24. Approximately 200 participants — families, children, teachers, and students from local schools — took part in the ride, with bicycles decorated with blue balloons provided by AutoArona.
The event was organized by the Pro Loco Arona with the patronage of the Municipality of Arona and UNPLI, with the support of Coop, Legambiente, ASCOM, the Italian Red Cross, and other local partners.
