A wine-filled weekend in the heart of Chianti Classico, set within the evocative Volte of Castellina
Bevo Castellina – Wine Weekend, also known as the Winemakers' Festival, is the most anticipated wine event in Castellina in Chianti, a small village in the Province of Siena, in the heart of Tuscany and the Chianti Classico region. Organized by the Castellina in Chianti Winemakers' Association, the event brings the historic center to life for two days, specifically within the famous Volte di Brunelleschi, the covered medieval walkway that runs along the village's defensive walls.
The charm of Bevo Castellina lies in its location: the tasting takes place along the Via delle Volte, a gallery of stone arches that once formed part of the castle's defensive system. Walking under the Volte with a glass in hand, stopping at each stand to chat with the producer, is an experience that turns a simple tasting into a journey through Chianti wine culture.
The heart of the festival is the grand tasting, which showcases the wineries of Castellina in Chianti: we are talking about over 150 labels offered by approximately 37 local producers, arranged along the street according to their sub-zones of origin. Alongside the great classics, there is no shortage of historic vintages and bottles no longer available on the market, including Riserva and Gran Selezione Chianti Classico, presented directly by those who bottled them.
Bevo Castellina is not just about technique: on Saturday evening, the Winemakers' Convivio (Dinner Party) pairs wines with local gastronomic specialties, featuring live music by the duo Statt'zitt and, following that, a DJ set in Piazza della Chiesa. The event has its roots in what was historically the Pentecost festival in Castellina, and it has now become a permanent fixture on the Tuscan wine calendar, successfully bridging the gap between tourism and the local social scene.
A weekend that captures the most authentic soul of Chianti, where wine is still a matter of family, land, and community.
The 28th edition of Bevo Castellina brought the village of Castellina in Chianti to life on May 16 and 17, 2026. The event, organized by the Castellina in Chianti Winemakers' Association, took place along the Via delle Volte and in Piazza della Chiesa, confirming the format that alternates the Saturday evening Convivio with the grand open tasting on Sunday afternoon.
The heart of the edition was the presence of 37 producers with over 150 labels, from young vintages to historic bottles no longer on the market. On Saturday evening, the Dinner Party combined wine and local cuisine with music by the duo Statt'zitt, followed by a DJ set in the square.
Castellina in Chianti is located along the SR222 "Chiantigiana" road, about 22 km from Siena and 50 km from Florence. By car, it is easily reached from the Florence-Siena highway (take the San Donato in Poggio or Poggibonsi exit). The nearest train station is Poggibonsi-San Gimignano, which is connected by bus or taxi.
The Saturday Dinner Party requires a reservation and has limited spots (participation fee 60 euros, glass and holder included). The Sunday tasting costs approximately 25 euros including a tasting glass (reduced price of 15 euros for residents and association members). Tickets can be purchased online via Tickettailor.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking along the Volte and plan a stop at the village's wine bars and restaurants. As it is a small town, it is advisable to book any overnight stays in the surrounding Chianti agriturismos in advance.
