About Painting Competition
Painting the town live
The Painting Competition is the cultural event with which the Pro Loco Besnate transforms the Municipality of Besnate, in the Province of Varese, into a large open-air studio. For one day, painters and enthusiasts position themselves in the most suggestive streets and corners of the town and create their works live, inspired by local views, buildings, and atmospheres.
A competition open to all
The format of the plein air painting – painting created on the spot, within a defined time – makes the event both an artistic competition and a moment of local animation. Artists, professionals or amateurs, are welcomed, and then the created works are exhibited and judged, in a spirit of sharing that also involves passers-by and the curious.
Art and territory
Included in the calendar of initiatives of the Pro Loco Besnate, which during the year also offers the Besnate Carnival and the patronal feast of San Martino, the Painting Competition enhances the link between art and community, offering artists an opportunity to test themselves and citizens a way to rediscover their town through the eyes of the painters.

The 2026 edition, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, invites professional and amateur painters to create their works live, inspired by the views of Besnate. A day of outdoor art that animates the town and concludes with the exhibition of the works created.
